Gene said it was down temporarily about a month ago, he said it would be back. Not ETA on it though. It would be nice to include a lot of that information on Steve's site as well.

the CF hood might save you, oh about 1 to 2 pounds. The stocker is pretty damn light.

This is importfan we are talking about. Show me a hood that will save me 11 pounds over the stocker and I'll buy it in a second.

i think the CF Mazdaspeed replica was within 2 lbs, if that, compared to the stock aluminum hood. There is no way the importfan hood, non vented at that, is 11 less.

There are plenty of places where weight can be easily removed from an FD, but the hood isn't one of them. The stock hood weighs 18 pounds, so if this non-vented piece actually weighs 7, I'd stay away.

Most aftermaket CF (and 'glass) hoods are heavier than the stock AL FD piece. The lightest I've seen that was decent quality was 16. If anything, a hood mods should be done for air flow/venting, not weight savings.

To quote the importfan web site.
test fit results: fit is perfect. scroll down to see pictures of the hood on our test fit sponsor car at our facility. this hood was also fitted on the nitrous express&174 rx7 company car. c-wings hood approximate weight: 14.1 lbs = 6.7 kilograms oem hood weight: 26.5 lbs = 12.02 kilograms

I don't know where they are getting their stock hood from!

Just let your svelte 95 pound fast lady honey drive it; shaves off 110 pounds.

Or inhale helium and undergo liposuction.

Talking

I was just reading some old rx-7 articles for nostalgia's sake and started having r1-itis, I started with an r1 that I sold and later bought a touring model without the rear spoiler. I know its stupid for street use, but the weight difference is really bothering me (as are the missing dual oil-coolers). After reading through this thread it seems like the best change I can make to get it closer to r1 weight is remove the bose snake in the back. I've also read in various places that touring's have more sound insulation and noticed on that site that the rear carpet is 8lb's for a touring model, is there a non-touring carpet?

Any other obvious differences that I could remove and still live with the car? The ps/ac removal is tempting, but my windows tend to fog up in rain so I think I need the ac.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread, and since I've already admitted that my quest for pointless weight savings is stupid, please don't remind me

Oh, and what is the "tar" in these entries? Is that the thick insulation material under the bins?
