We must have a lot of midgets that drive FD's if it's too much trouble to look at the top of the window. :rolleye:

its pretty good that it has not moved in the year it has been up there. do you park in the sun? my stupid sucktion cups never hold very long and turn color for some reason. did you put any silicon glue or anything like that to help it stay up?

as for how it looks, its pretty innovative and not 1/2 bad looking. im surpised nobody else has done that before.

I think it's quite a move for your eyes regardless of where you're looking... lets not play like our eyes are normally looking at the A-pillar or the center pod. But they just may be closer to our central field of view in those locations than way at the top of the windshield...

EDIT: XSTransAm, that sig is HILARIOUS haha

yeah its parked outside year round, and no yellowing as of yet. Im sure the sticker on the other side of it helps.

On another note my gf just made a good point. Its no more taxing than looking in the rearview mirror. Do you break your neck when you check that?

Radar detector dectector. Hehe, that's like that movie ...i've got a phone buster, buster, buster to block his phone buster.

Anyhow, stuff hanging from the rear view mirror is illegal. So yes, fuzzy dice, roarie beads, graduation things, etc are all illegal. I think it has to do with obstruction of view.

If you had three it would look better. At least it's creative. I don't know about suction cups though. Maybe if you could attach them to the rear view mirror and hode the wires.

Thanks for the comments gordon, however with the price of this gauge, i wouldent exactly call it the "cheap" way out

GoRacer is right about things hanging from the rear view being illegal because they obstruct your view. I remember I found this out waaay back in high school when the cop on campus pulled over my friend because of an apartment parking pass he had hanging on the rear view!! He explained to the officer what it was etc, and the officer said he doesn't care what it is, it's still obstructing your view. Thus, you take it off while driving, and put it back on when you park.

But I doubt that's a law across all 50 states. Its law here in NoVa, and yes, cops will pull you over for it, but then again, that's no big surprise. Fairfax County, remember?

InsaneGideon, you have a "baby on board" sign on your rear view?? Usually people place them on the rear windshield or a small rear window so that other drivers can actually read them. Kinda pointless if only you can read it, right?

Awsome idea!!! ORIGINAL, CREATIVE, DIY points

if any one who owns an FD is over 6 feet tall, they know the REAR VEIW mirror obstructs your view! actually, it is so bad i notice it EVERY TIME i drive the car.

the gauge has a suction cup, it can be moved anywhere. i have mine mounted on the lower left of the gauge cluster area near the inspection and registration stickers. its easier to see.

From that pic, I think you all should be more worried about how much visibility he has driving with the hood open!

Yeah its making me insane frankly as I try to look ahead around long sweeping right hand corners. I think my project next weekend will be to move the rearview all the way up to the very top edge of the window.

I wouldn't have any trouble at all looking at that gauge though it may get in my field of vision on roads/tracks with elevation changes.

Somebody needs to create a HUD that takes data off of a PFC and displays whatever you want. I'll bet a ton of folks would drop good money on that.

The technology seems pretty mature and underutilized. Kenwood has a unit to display your CD Player information (whoopie-do) for $99 list (Model: KPA-HD100).

I also found SportVUE: http://www.motionresearch.com/products.htm

http://popularmechanics.com/technolo...sday_12_15_03/

For $349 this may be very worth it to weekend track racers that don't have the perfect sense of speed yet (since its pretty hard to brake, watch the track, and check your speedo to see what your low speed was that corner).

Defi also seems to make a unit though it looks so great (probably just their smokey glass insert shouldn't just be a square on the window, it should have fading edges not harsh lines).

Defi's system: http://www.defi-shop.com/product/con...ncept_top.html

I believe Blitz offers a line of suction cup guages...I like the idea and the DIY is cheaper...he just chose a bad place to mount it IMHO. On the lest side of the windshield is perfect and you can hide the wires.

i assume you meant left side and i tried it there cause that was my original plan, I thought it looked too out of place though and the suction cup looked bad from the front of the winshield.

The only time ive seen the wire on it since i put the gauge in was when i took that picture.... from just about any point in the car/ behind/ front you cant see the wire. Just at the specific angle looking in from the corner. if i cared i could stick the wire taut to the gauge, but it dosent bother me.

I heard that blitz offered this too, but was never able to actually locate the kit.

In most states, you can put anything you want across the top 4" of your windshield. Thats why his sticker is legal, and his gauge is legal too.

In Cali I think it is actually 6''. That guage is totally legal. If it was hanging off the rear-view mirror then it would be a different story

Wow...I thought it was just me...it def. pisses me off cuz I can't get a good central look ahead...

Fumanchu's right. There's a very big diff between a sticker on the windshield itself, and something actually hanging from the rear view mirror.

yeah its mike

Hosted that pic for you gordon

www.photobucket.com is the greatest! Thats a pimp setup gordon, did you just fiberglass the stock trim up? or is that a entirely new peice?

ive got a set of extra dash panels that ive been meaning to lay in cf. I origonally planned to make a mold and sell the kit layed in complete cf. But i cant figure out how i would make the mold of the back

edit: also for those of you wondering, im not too into car stickers, which is why its black.. on a black winshield with black leather you can barely see it unless your tryign to read it. It serves its purpose of blocking the sun and hiding the suction cup.
