UIM Hand Polishing

Well I was pretty bored so I stopped by the local auto store and picked up some sand paper (80 grit, 220 grit, 600 grit, and 800 grit) I dont have any tools for it so I'm doing it all by hand. Holy crap this takes forever but I dont care I love how the polished UIM looks so I'm going to attack it and have it finished hopefully in 3 days. Heres some pics for now, I will be updating them as I progress. I also painted both arms to a alluminum color and it looks nice and clean too. Check those out. Well...... back to polishing. enjoy the pix!

Is that paint your using going to be able to withstand the temps in the engine bay and the temps of the air passing through the pipes??

Better contract a ciropracter to straighten you out.

I get them polished for about $100 for the manifold and TB. Looks better than doing it by hand and a little less time.

Be prepared to lose some fingertips hahaha.

Yeah, I'm gonna do my manifold later on.

I polished my efini y-pipe by hand. Well, sanded it by hand and polished it on a bench grinder.

Exclamation Polishing !

You also need 800 to 1000 to 1500 to final 2000 grit wetery paper
than you can buff it with the buffing wheeel with the white cutting compond !

Good luck
I remember I did mine on a rainy labor day weekend !

nice work on the polishing. Although, I had a question for you or the other gurus. Any truth to the belief that polishing the UIM changes the qualities of heat dissipation? In other words, with a stock ECU, and dp, is it okay to polish the UIM with no ill-effects?

Hmm, I didn't put clear coat on my efini y-pipe and it's still as shiny as before. Overtime it does develop an oxide layer on top though which may dull it up a bit, so you may have to give it a quick repolish or so. I had my car sit in the garage when I went away for a year, and it looked the same after.

How are you getting into those crevices? Are you using a dremel or anything? Or just getting at it with your fingers???

nice bro... very nice. How did you get this done again? I might have to investigate this... but again, that heat dissipation thing bothers me though. Can anybody else step in to adderss this concern??? Anybody see any issues with polished UIM's? especially with stock ECU's?
