are u supposed to hear an induction noise at idle?

this is sort of a random question..

while my car idles I can hear the engine "sucking"

the car sat for a long time with a blown motor.. before i gathered the funds, time and motivation to overhaul it.. (1.5yrs approx)

ever since it ran again.. it has had this sound..

i don't know if it's supposed to do that or not..

when u turn of the car.. u hear the sucking noise for a little longer after the engine stops as the vacuume equalizes

or it might be a vacuume leak?

rellevant mods: the car has stock IC.. but has the HKS hard pipes (maybe this causes the echo?) and twin apexi filters, rich mans non-seq.

the car only boosts 7psi.. but it holds it.. I don't know if that's the lack of restrictor pill or the result of a boost leak..

Anybody have similar sounds?

More than likely your hearing the fuel injectors.

Could it be the impellers spinning down after shut off?

Disconnect the TB elbow. Then listen to hear where the sound is coming from. If its by the turbos it could be a damaged blade, if it's coming from the tb it could be a leak on the compression "stroke."

u mean remove the Elbow from the TB side so the TB's are out in the open?

I'm not talking about the ticking sound. You can actually hear the fuel flow in the injector rails.

V-Ton's got a valid idea too. You could also be hearing some sort of coolant movement or air up by the TB. Anyway, if the car's running fine besides the boosting problem I would do a compression check. If the compression check goes well then do a champagne test. When you pass both of those GO SINGLE. You'll spend more money and time on the twins than with a single.
