Two wierd problems......

First problem is my cars "charge battery" light continues to come on unless the voltage is ABOVE 14v. When my headlights are on however the charge light goes off even though the volts are running 12v to 13v or so.

Second problem is my cars OEM water temp gauge versus the PFC Commander and Datalogger. Last couple drives the car's gauge show full operation temp reached but the PFC is telling me 30-40 C. When I start driving the PFC temp gauge will jump up to what I expect but then it seems to stick there and not move(most of the time). I know(I think) the sensor/themostat must be fine because the fans kick on at the expected times.

Any ideas? Did I miss something in my searches? Thanks

Good point.

Car runs fine, just curious why the above is happening. I can't be the first.

fans kicking on have nothing to do with the temp sensors. the fan switch is seperate

The stock temp gauge will reach the mid point (normal position) well before the engine actually reach's operating temperature. Most people install another water temp gauge so they can monitor actual temperature as the stock one doesn't acurately tell you when it reaches operating temp any better than it tells you when it's reached an overheating point. I'd say unless your PFC is reading differently than it used to go with it.

The ECU's water temp sender might be getting a little flaky - could be worth a replacement.

On the Charge light - that's an odd one. Time to study up on the CPU's circuitry - I think that governs the charge light. You could be seeing good voltage on one circuit (say, the circuit feeding the PFC) but the circuit that check system is on could have a bad or flaky connection, causing it to see a lower voltage.

I understand the OEM gauge is just a approx. kinda thing. Before this though it would be mid range starting around 62C(according to PFC). The PFC is reading differently than it used to. It will sit at one value(say 43C) and then jump to 80C. I assume that the PFC takes it water temps from the same sensor the OEM gauge uses so I don't understand the difference now. I will replace the water temp sensor and see what that does.

There's no way in hell I could study the diagrams and come up with an answer, the best I can do is look at it and nod my head like I understand . I

t really makes no sense to me. As long as its a minor thing Ill guess Ill just live with it.

Thanks guys
