Twin Turbos ?

Hey. for some time ive noticed that my turbos wern't spooling as they should so i finally went to have my car cheked out and it appears that my rear turbo is damaged and isnt working. i want to replace the turbos and get another set, my parents are willing to help me out with the money as a graduation present but i need help finding a pair. Should i just stick with the stock turbos or should i get aftermarket turbos? i was thinking of getting some aftermarket turbos but im not sure what which ones i should get any suggestions? and what would be the price for a new pair? any help would be gladly appreciated.

if you're swappin out the turbos, now is a great time to goto a single turbo setup. If you're looking for more power that is :P
The issue with that is, you'll want to upgrade your intercooler and you'll need new piping aswell, including a BOV. It'll prob end up running u somewherez about 3-4 grand?

If u find a good set of stock replacements it'll prob cost u bout a grand i reckon. Problem with buying used turbos is you could end up with some pretty shitty turbs tha tmight jsut blow on u again. Make sure to check condition, play etc.

i figure eventually you'll prob want to upgrade ur IC and turbo anyways, minds well do it now while ur taking it apart ^_^

as for what turbo u should get, it all depends on how much ur willing to spend, and how much power u want.

Used stock turbos don't cost a grand, so I don't know wtf this guy^ is talking about. They usually run about $150-$350 shipped on this forum. AFAIK, the are no aftermarket twin turbos, save for the Knightsports setup(which is near impossible to find) and the BnRs.

With your budget, I would STRONGLY recommend just purchasing another set of stock twins.

Who checked out the car??? And what exact damage did they find. More times than not is is an issue with sequential system and not the turbo itself.

from the sound of it he's going to need a shop to do the install. So i figured if he budgeted for a gradn he coudl handle any laboru charges or extras.

Just to add... You cant really go single without a bunch of supporting mods

Ignition Amp... 350
Intercooler... 500-800
Fuel injectors... 350
Fuel pump...150
Engine management... 700
cooling...450
full exhaust...600
turbo kit... 1500-3000 depending on turbo, vendor, and condition
thats just a simple list needless to say you looking at spending well over 5k after its all said and done to go single. If you car is completely stock and you want to do some upgrades heres a small list for you.

Buy a pair of stock twins with low miles cost you about...250-400 for a good set.
Upgrade your radiator...300
upgrade your AST...100
buy new vacuum hoses (silicone)...120
good downpipe...200
and a CB system RB dual tips if you want to keep it quite...500
Power FC and commander...700
Intake...250
and then get it tuned by someone reputable and you should be happy and have piece of mind at least untill your motor goes. after everything youll be down about 2500

Chris

Check the 'For Sale' section for 3rd gens and often times there are damned good, lower mileage turbos for under $500, sometimes even much less. If you are decent with a wrench and are able to re-use most of your gaskets, you COULD theoretically get your turbos working good again for not much money.
But that is a big 'IF' for some....

Your turbos are most likely fine, read read read read read read read read read. You are going to most likely go thru all the trouble of replacing the twins to have the same symptoms when it is a failed solenoid or broken vacuum line.
