turbo upgrade: T04S or Efini 99 twin turbos?

Its that time... the time for a turbo swap. Im contemplating the 2 choices and I really dont know which to go for. I know that there is the pro of being able to keep the airpump with the Infini 99 turbo swap. Also the Infini 99 turbos would have a shorter spool. What kind of maximum power should I be able to expect out of both? Is there anything I'm not taking into consideration that I should be? Help me make this decision easier.

I should, but you should learn what an AST is and how to use your power fc.

let's rewind things a bit...

before upgrading, make sure your engine is ok, driving around with no coolant to a meet could do some serious damage.

#1 priority, check compression

Wrong, first priority is check your coolant level before going to the San Mateo Tapioca Express meet

Yes, BNR Stage 3 turbo upgrades. These blow the 99 specs out of the water. They can be run sequentially for max spool time, but I am running them non-seq for simplicity's sake. Here is a link to my dyno #s and then to my dyno vid:

and

enjoy!

A compression check won't tell him if he overheated the motor and cooked his coolant seals, unless he warped a a rotor housing. Best sign of bad coolant seals is coolant consumption and the 'spy hunter' smoke screen at startup.....

When my twins go, BNR stage 3's are going in as well.

Im not crazy about making huge hp numbers. I like to be simple and having great spool up with great hp as well.

Answer to question #1.) go for the T04s

Answer to this question- assuming the car is properly set up the t04s will be safer on the engine

no 'efini' after 98 also - that's why the emblem changes to the 'flying m'

Damn Rich, I wish I had sent my old turbos to Bryan instead of the 99's I bought. Not that I don't like the 99's, but like most, 10 to 15 more rwhp and or less heat/stress on the motor would be nice as well.

Hi Tim,

there is nothing wrong with the 99s, but they are basically new stock replacements. My dad has fresh stock twins on his car, and when I do drive it I can appreciate the vast differences in power delivery and torque between our cars. My FD just seems to be flowing much more air and making much more power and torque than his at a lower boost level. Of course, I am modded out the wazoo and he is lightly modded, making 290 rwhp.

If you surf over to www.bnrturbos.com, you can find a comparison pic between the stock rotating assemblies and the BNRs:

Now that my ported motor is broken in, with a stress test being a track event at Road Atlanta last week, I plan on dynoing my current set up and comparing it to my last run. My previous was 363 rwhp on a stock motor at 14.XX psi. Only change is the ported motor. Might try the 99's at 15 or 16 if everything looks safe and see what it does.

let me clear up my comments,

"before upgrading, make sure your engine is ok." (pause)

" driving around with no coolant to a meet could do some serious damage. " << this portion was because of his negligence and just trying to play around

"#1 priority, check compression"

a compression check is always healthy, i wouldn't continue modding the engine if i knew the compression was bad.
