Question Turbo removal?

Anyone know how hard it is to remove the turbos? What exactly needs to be removed? What kind of time factor are we talking here?

Thanks,
Steve

Thumbs up Turbo removal piece of cake

I did a turbo swap about four months ago. It's not as bad as I expected.you have to pull of inercooler, smog pump, intake and relating pipes.the "y" pipe has to come out, down pipe. Actually its easier to re-install if you take off the entire exhaust system.Just keep working your way down to the turbos. Once your there get all the oil and coolent lines off the front and back.Make sure you get all the little crap out of the way ,The heat shield was a little trick but that comes off so you can get to the turbo studs.get those off .about six studs to the turbo I believe. then noce you get that off you might as well get the lower intake and replace those gaskets while your at it . Just make sure you have a set of new studs and all the gaskets and you'll be money.About a weekend project if you got the right tools. You can stretch it out if you got the time. I say try it. I did with no shop manule and I've had no problems since. Check out the vague how to @www.dontbearikki.com

FD3BOOST is right except you don't have to pull the intercooler. Just all the intake piping and the down pipe/pre cat and oil/coolant lined to the turbos. I replaced my turbos with the help of a friend and it was about a 15 hour job for the 2 of us. Could probably do it in more like 8 hours now.

I did my removal and installation in about 5 hours. It really isnt that hard. But it is a little cramped trying to loosen all of the bolts. Also I busted the stud that goes into the catalytic converter. We just drilled it out and retapped the hole.
