Motor whoas/Compression testing
Please help me sort this one out guys.....I recently posted that i experienced some detonation on christmas eve and since had the car looked at by a rotory specialist. He got the car turned over and did a few things and told me that i had blown the the lower intake manifold gasket (which is the original paper one that came with the 93). He quoted me a good price to replace it with the metal aftermerket gasket. My symptoms are: hard to keep running, when running it has lumpy idle and boost gauge reads between 8 to 12 lbs. of vacuum. Also it smokes until car is completely warmed up...
I asked him about the smoking and he said i need a new O2 sensor and also the fact that the car has no emissions it would be a bit more noxoius.
Bottom line guys is I don't want to spend the money on this gasket replacement because it seems i have the symptoms of a bad seal.
Would a compression test help me to diagnose if it is a bad gasket or a bad motor? Please help......

sold the FD...kept the FB
Get a compression check done for sure. Even if your lower intake gasket sprung a leak it wont effect the test. It was my understanding that when a intake gasket leaks it usually raises the idle since more air is going into the engine. Maybe if the leak was really bad it could make the engine idle like crap. The O2 sensor causing the smoke doesnt sound right.
