turbo question

Hey guys i have a cym r1 and when i park the car after driving it ,im getting a little smoke coming up under the hood right off the turbos. Its on the passenger side coming up over the air intake pipes . Is this a oil line or is the turbo leaking oil through the seals ? am i looking at a turbo rebuild? is this a simple repair ? Hey let me know with a PM if you dont mind . All your help will be greatly appreciated Thanks Greg AUTOSPOT

there are 2 coolant lines that go to the turbo and sometimes leak. highly recommend removing the intake and air pump and taking a look at them. from what i read in a thread by DamonB leaking coolant is flammable. Do a search for more.

The turbos are also known to leak some oil which could drip onto the downpipe and cause some smoke in that area as well. Jack the car up and look from underneath.

Only way to check the cause of the smoke is to get out there and look.

Hey Greg,

Lets figure out some more info; what type of other symptoms can you spot? Does it smoke still after the ignition is off or continues after you pull the keys? Any smoke puffing from the exhaust as well? Did this occurence happen on a cold/chilly or a warm day - last week was on n' off. Obviously I think, there is a crack or maybe a leak of some sort - check on the turbo turbines itself if you can get a good view over or under the engine bay. Hope it's not a major issue like o-ring failure or something alike.

Check out this link as it talks about a similar situation:

You can tell if it is coolant or oil by the smell. Burning coolant smells sweet.
