turbo to manifold gaskets.

Hi all
Just need a little advice, when I changed my turbo units last, I fitted some carbon/metal gaskets from my work due to the fact that one of the original gaskets (secondary) was in a mess.

Anyhow turns out that the gaskets I have fitted have started to blow! So I need the original gasket sets.
For the both gaskets im getting prices of £150 OUCH.
Thing is one of my baskets is ok!
But:

Are these gaskets a one use item? can they be re-used?

Anyone know anyone in the UK who can do them at a resonable price?

Many thanks
Adam

Typically they can be re-used. As with any gasket, once they crush down the first time they don't normally seal as well the next time. However I have rarely seen this to be a problem with the exhaust side metal gaskets.

Over $300 US for the gaskets? Someone is trying to rip you off. Your post count is low, so I'm guessing you went to a dealer... bad idea unless it's Ray @ Malloy Mazda here in the US.

Try this:

http://mazdatrix.com/e6.htm

If you take off the pipes, you should re-anneal the copper crush washers or replace them.

Not to burst your bubble, but that's about how much they are brand new.

No, not quite. Even if you bought just one side at Mazdacomp prices I don't think you'd be down that low.

Anyway, any aftermarket gasket made of anything other than solid metal will burn up in that location. It just gets way too hot.

They are about $85 each from Mazda. Watch out for cheep aftermarket replacements. They never last. If you need them I have some good used ones.

He's talking about changing his turbos out... so that means we're talking about the gaskets between the turbos and the mani, not the mani --> engine gaskets.

If you bought one side from mazdaspeed you would be down to under 20 pounds.

He is talking in pounds... 20 pounds is ~40 dollars for one (1) gasket... used.

Brand new they are $40 for one and $60 for the other at mazdatrix.

Brand new from MAZDASPEED MOTORSPORTS they are $27 for one and $42 for the other. The guy got ripped off. End of story.

What about the high temp graphite gaskets that Pineapple Racing sells? Has anyone had any experience with these?

I've tried graphite/metal mesh gaskets before (aka Mr. Gasket Ultra) between the cat and downpipe and it got brittle pretty quickly. It would be fried quickly anywhere near the turbos.

Alex, you're right about those particular gaskets. The other ones around the turbos and manifold aren't nearly as cheap.

I used very high quality gasket with carbon, metal impregnated.
Normally used for very high temps and pressure at my work (power station) this lasted 3 days before blowing!!! The 2nd hand unit I got is now fitted and is fine! so all is good.

You lads forget that us poor beggers in the UK get totally ripped off with most of our motor/motorsport spares and service parts! expecially when it come to jap imports!! and motorcross.

Cheers again

You say that, but you can just as easily order from a US distributor. However, you're still fucked on labor from what I've heard.

Thats right, some dealerships charge £90 an hour labour???? (180 usd). then you got parts and VAT (17.5%) ontop of that. daft money.

I do most of the work myself, otherwise there is no way I could run the cars I do!
