Turbo Inspection - things to look for?
I broke all three apex seals on the front rotor of my engine.
I have checked the front rotor thru the exhaust port and it appears that all three seals were broken in the center and that the seals appear to be mostly intact and still in the rotor.
The turbo is a low mileage RZ (aka '99 JDM) twin unit with about 30K miles since new. No major cracking in the center section. Perhaps it is wishfull thinking but I think that the turbos may be OK.
I have preformed a visual inspection of the exhaust side of the turbos and the blades seem to be unharmed. I plan on cleaning them to check closer for any "nicks" and cracks that might have been caused by "whatever" coming out of the front rotor. The turbos have not leaked any oil. Can any one with experience with this type of an inspection tell me how freely the shafts should turn and how much end play is acceptable before I have to retire or rebuild this unit.

When you pull the motor apart, pull the turbine housings off the turbos for a full inspection of the blades. You can NOT see any damage on the blades with the turbos together - most times it's at the edge of the wheel, which is obscured by the turbine housing.
When in doubt, have a turbo shop do an inspection. If they're low mileage and the turbine blades look fine, you're most likely OK.
