Turbo Gauge Column Mount

I was just wondering if I'm the only one with a crappy fitting column mounted turbo gauge.

I bought the Autometer one through Pettit and it fits like crap. It's slightly off center and it does not just snap into place like the normal top part.

I'm thinking about removing the gauge and making my own holder on top of the normal top column piece.

Anyone else experience this?

yeah, just drill 4 small holes in it. 2 in the upper piece, and 2 in the lower piece. center it, and then slip some small zip-ties through and pull tight....

it worked great for me, and that thing is going nowhere...

I bought one of the Pettit copies and it was a POS. Jason at the RX7store was kind enough to let me return it.

The problems I had was that it was simply a poor fit. The angle of the gauge is all wrong, none of the holes line up properly, and the back end of it hung off beyond the end of the stock bottom piece.

I expect that with time and patience you could fix 2 of those three issues, but I had neither at the time and opted to just do the A-pillar pod.

There is an RE Amemiya column pod, but it retails for > $200, and it still isn't a perfect fit, so that's kind of a bust. Someone in the US could make a great fitting unit and market it to the FD folk out there, but the cost would be pretty high given the limited # of FD's in the US/Canada market
