Trying an Rx-7 FD

My dream car is an rx7 FD for years. I've owned other JDM cars and am aware of the challenges of owning an rx-7 FD. However, before buying one, I would like to test drive one, but I don't know anyone that owns one. Would anyone in southern California let me pay a decent sum of money to them for a 15 minute test drive? The owner is free to sit in the car with me.

Are there any alternatives? There obviously are no rx-7s of any gen on Turo, I've checked. Any recommendations for other ways to try one?
I did do a quick thread search to see if someone else has asked something similar.

My suggestion: find one that's for sale, have the money ready to buy it, test drive that one. If you like it, buy it.

Might want to get on the Facebook groups in your area, that will probably be the best way to find someone.

It's worth doing, it's not uncommon to be disappointed when you meet your hero, so to say. While it is an amazing car, it's an OLD car at this point and you have old car things that go along with it - no modern infotainment system, interior build quality isn't great, not to mention just fixing stuff that have flat worn out due to time.

Of note is FD's can be a challenge to pass emissions in California so keep that in mind as well. Closer to stock the easier it will be to pass.

I think this is the best course of action just because with suspension modifications that nearly all of them inevitably have nearly 30 years down the road, or different wheel and tire packages, they're all going to drive differently in one aspect or another. So test drive the one you're looking to buy so you know what THAT car drives like, the one you're going to potentially own.

While you're at it, drive a RX-8 too. I think you will be pleasantly surprised, but that's a story for another day.
