no end float with transmission bolted

Just got my motor back from the builder and he told me to check the end float on the main pulley before i start the car. Motor had end float when i picked it up but after bolting up the clutch and gearbox it feels pretty tight, is this normal or should there still be discernible end float when pulling the pulley?

yes.

endplay should have been around .0018 before you connected the motor to the trans. most likely the friction between the clutch disc splines with the input shaft splines tighten things up a bit.

Yeah you should be good there, I think having the trans bolted on/throwout bearing engaged will keep you from easily checking that.

Any good builder is going to measure float when they build the engine. Nothing external would change that. Not entirely sure why he's asking you to check it before startup.
