Trouble Installing GReddy v2 Boost Gauge

I know it's a stupid question, but I've been trying to get this thing done right. Now, I'm hitting my head against a wall and need help.

The signal wires from the engine bay are fine. The gauge is getting signal. The weird thing is that it lights up when the interior lights are off and shuts off when I switch to parking or head lights.

The big problem I'm running into is this: after installing the gauge, when I fired it up the first time, the engine revved itself over 5000rpm and kept going. Without knowing what else to do, I shut down. I don't want to keep having this happen, so please help me get the car on the road.

Here's what I've got wired so far:

ground - one cig lighter illum wire (the gauge seems to work from this)
illum - the other cig lighter illum wire (can't tell if the dimmer's working because the gauge shuts off when the driving lights come on)
ign ii - ?? I had it hooked up to the green wire coming off the turn signal tree, thinking that was the switch...
constant 12v - I followed a FAQ floating around and connected it to the bottom leftmost wire in the blue connector under the steering column. I think this is a big part of the problem, but can't be sure.

Seriously, I know it's an easy fix, but I'm just not seeing it. And yes, I'm looking through the FSM, but I'm no less confused than I was before. Help!

Okay, I got the gauge working, but the engine is still revving on its own at startup. I'll start a different thread about that, which I think is now a separate issue...

Update: In case people search for this topic and find no useful information, I didn't install the illum wire at all. I got a constant power source from the ACC wiring in the steering column, ignition II from the turn signal tree, and ground from the ground circuit for the cluster illumination. Since the FD uses a modulating ground signal to affect dim, there is no use for the separate illumination wire.
