Tried Tinting my windows
As I was cleaning them with soapy water the passenger side window will not go up or down. I though it was a short. When I turn the car to the on postilion and look at the batt. volts its around 11.7. When I roll up the driver side the volts drop to 11.4. Then when i try the pass. they stay the same 11.7 like its not even drawing power . I changed out the 30amp. fuse ( power windows) and still nothing.

Even with 11.7 the driver goes up and down. While I'm driving the battery hits 14.4 volts and still nothing. I have to hook up a multi meter to the switches. The water shorted something out. Erix, I tree the on off switch too. When I try to roll it up the volts don't even drop. Drivers side and passengers side.

No didn't disconnect the window switches . Or the inner door panels to do the tinting. I will try to take off the drivers side door and check the switches. I was focusing on the pass. side only. But think the problem is from the drivers side switch. "on Off" switch is on the on position.
I'm pretty sure that some water got on the drivers side switch and shorted it out. The seals are pretty tight so I don't think water got down so far.

The switches are expensive, but they can be opened and cleaned.
the problem is, I do not believe there is any unloader relay to take the switching current and load of the window motor. It is all put upon the power window switch contacts. This causes small arcing and carbon deposit on the switch contacts.
The switch can be removed and opened and cleaned, but be warned, it is probably the fiddliest job you will ever attempt in your life. There are 64th inch diameter ball bearings which sit in tiny tracks inside orange plastic carriages, which roll across steel contacts and make the switches operate. And very tiny springs.
You must disassemble all this and clean the carbon off the contacts (an eraser, followed by scuffing with fine sandpaper) will do it and they you must very gingerly tilt and roll and assemble the whole thing back together, using grease to hold and position the tiny ball bearings in their carriages, on the end of something like a dental pick.
Work on a well lit, clean flat white surface. Dont loose anything.
I have done miniature model making for many years, and yet this job was the fiddliest thing I have attempted and done successfully last year. My windows now work very well
If you drop one of those ball bearings or a spring or contact plate, you are going to have a mental episode. And then pay the $245 for a new switch happily :p

There's a big wad of wires that run from the chassis into the car door and they can go bad from continual opening & closing over the years as well as water working its way in there and shorting things out.
I have had my share of window problems, and in my case its been the wires that run from the chassis into the door, the pins had corroded away..
You should check those wires etc before you assume its your window switch
I would suggest finding someone local to you who has a good known working window switch and test that if possible..
Try working your window switch while wiggling the big wad of wires iv been walking about, also test power before and after the big *** plug

SA38. Yes I took apart the switch and looked at all the innards. Right there I stopped cause it looked pretty crazy I took a small screw driver and tried rolling it up with everything apart and nothing. Your right that stuff looked like a big can of worms once you really start to take it apart.
96fd3s. I'm going to try the wiring between the door. There is a huge harness back there.

I had to get new window switches for my FD when some lady on a cell phone ran a stop sign and plowed into my car while I was getting out of it. I barely had enough time to pull my foot back in before she peeled my door back like the movie Tommy Boy.
Anyway, I ended up buying a clean set of switches from one of the guys on this club that gets JDM clips and stuff. The new switches work great except:
The left switch works the right door and vice-versa. They drive on the other side of the road AND car in Japan. haha, no biggie and I got used to it quick, but yeah.

The switches are pretty easy to swap around. My driver side window switch was broken and I switched the good passenger window switch into the driver side of the controller. It worked great and was actually pretty easy. I just had to be gentle with it and take my time. Did you check your fuse box? I know it sounds stupid but it might have popped a fuse if you got water in it.
