Get some good quality synthetic grease (Mobil 1) and lube all four rubber stops and MORE importantly, the latch itself. I just smear a large glob right on the curved metal latch on the hood.

It will last 3-4 months, depending on how many times you wash your car and engine bay.

It took me a while to find why my hood was squeaking, turned out it was the hood latch (at the middle of the hood closest to the front bumper). I sprayed the hook and the "loop" with WD-40, and I haven't heard it squeak for the past few months.

Interesting. WD-40 tends to just disappear after a few hours when exposed to the atmosphere. Maybe it was the cleaning effect it had on the grime? Whatever works, eh?

this was the source of my squeaks too... electrical tape 8 or 9 months ago and not a squeak since.

Don't forget the hinges. WD-40 there fixed my squeaks.

Two steps to stopping the squeak:

1) duct tape on the U-loop of the hood latch; you'll need to replace this every 6 months or so.

2) get some little plastic or rubber washers and put them under the four rubber stops to cause them to touch the hood a little tighter. You can cut the washer to get them over the stops.
