Transported FD arrives dirty..damage check?
A newly purchased 1993 CYM RX-7 will arrive shortly. It's being transported "open" and feel sure it will arrive dirty. What can I do to check for damage (scratches and such) on a dirty car? Don't think the transport company will be too keen on me getting it washed first before I sign saying everything is okay...?!?
any ideas on this...?
thanks

I agree, you spent ALOT of money for the car and shipping, take ALL the time you want when the car arrives.
Dont be a "nice guy" because that will make or break you/car. Because once the transporter leaves and you find something you dont like that you didnt address, you're gonna be kicking yourself in the ***.
Definitely spend about 20-30 minutes going over everything.

I was hoping you guys would say that.....that's sounds fair to me.
I didn't go enclosed because my car was sitting at a repair shop waiting to get shipped and going enclosed would have been another 2 or 3 weeks

i shipped my car from dallas to L.A when I bought it and boy was it dirty. Im pretty sure the few scratches the car came with were caused by the transport but nothing else was damaged. Check your miles too and make sure nobody took it for a joy ride. I driver wont care if you take ~20min to check out your car.
btw I paid ~$400 to ship it around 3 years ago. Internal was around 1200.

Set the driver up in a motel room. Have his trailer taken away to temporary storage. Take the car off to a high end wash and detailer and use a microscope to go over every inch of the car and underbody. Then reject it !
Come on....look the car over for obvious damage and either accept or reject. Are you going to complain about a swirl mark ?

do a quick walk thru for obvious damage
If I am the truck driver and you are bitching at me about a car that isnt as clean as you want even though I didnt load it, I could give a **** less and go on my next delivery
maybe bring him some beer if you are going to be a pia checking the car over?

Buncha smart *** remarks here...
I've had several cars come through here on an open trailer and I've made it good practice to meet the driver at a near by car wash. My neighbor hood has a few narrow roads and I know he appreciates being able to drop anchor in a parking lot for a min opposed to navigating a 10 car hauler in a tight area. I highly doubt he'll care if you take just a min or two and hose off the car.
I honestly wouldn't bother with all of this unless the car is of some value.
