Had the 7 blocked up to do some other work and decided to check the manual transmission fluid level. When removing the filler plug to check the level heard a pressure relief as I broke the seal on the plug. Am wondering if this is normal? Other powertrains components I have worked on have had venting. This was on both the pumpkins and transfer cases but can’t seem to remember if it was also on the transmissions.
Looked in the service manual schematics and did not see any indication of a vent mentioned. However my fluid was seeping out as I removed the plug so the fluid levels did not seem compromised. I was thinking the venting is needed for any air generated as the parts rotate but also in my thoughts are the shocks that generate foaming but are not vented so may be of the same nature.
Car is still up on blocks as still need to change the gas filter so would appreciate any info on whether a breather is clogged and I should tackle this also.

 

The FD transmission is vented. IIRC, it's on the upper right side.

thanks you sarge. I went back over the manual and still don't see anything listed will try the parts manuals. Now just to get motivated to get back under and see if I can access and open up, can't see me dropping the trans for this but maybe tie into a clutch job and a leaking oil pan down the road.

Well finally got done with work last night for getting ready for sevenstock. Had to take care of the gas filter and click click not start as well. Did see the vent and it was covered in grease. Used some Wurth Solvent to clear the gunk away so that vent is nice and clean and moves around and up and down.

Took car for test drive and am glad to say the shifter actually was way smoother and crisp. The key test for me was 2nd and especially 3rd gear.

Also glad to say the no start click click issued is fixed as well. Now am feeling better about upcoming sevenstock drive. Just get a bit closer to 11/22 and will do an oil job and skin treatment, "wax job".
