Oil idiot light flashes on, but oil levels OK

Sup everybody,

Oil idiot light is flashing, but oil level is fine. Here are some quick facts:

Has not happened before, just started up about 2 days ago. No maintenance has recently been performed except an oil change about 1 week ago. Using (as I was before) Castrol 10-30.

I checked the oil level, on cold engine it is at 3/4 full mark.

The idiot light flashes (not a constant "on") sometimes barely and sometimes for a second.

Flashing occurs usually at light engine load between 2K - 3K rpm. Accelerating or in higher gears, light stays off.

Oil pressure is normal and needle stays between the 30? and 90? mark almost all the time.

Could this be the oil sensor or some sort of ground problem? Anyone have a similar problem?

Stock except for:

DP
Exhaust
Intake

Sorry I didn't list them before, but can't imagine how these would affect oil levels. I've got aftermarket springs too, but don't see how this would matter.

The oil pressure sender is a common failure on our cars, I know mine went out around 35k miles.

Might wanna look into that.

Mine did the same thing and it WAS the oil pressure sender. That is most likley wha thte problem is. Really no big deal to take care of.

What exactly does the oil pressure sender do? Does it come in contact with oil and reads the pressure or does it have a real job to do like decide where the oil is going or sending the oil?

I second street king's question. I just want to know how urgent a problem this is. As oil pressure seems ok, I am assuming that all the rotating parts are still getting adequate lube - or am I missing something?

Is this a tough DIY job or best left to the specialists?

The Oil LIGHT is controled by a Level Sensor mounted on the side of the oil pan. it is not controlled by the sensor that drives the Oil Pressure Guage. If the light is coming on even with the oil level ok then the Level sensor is probably bad. it generally does not come on untill you are more than 1.5qts low. My Pressure sensor is going bad and shows 0psi at idle but my light does not come on.

Any DIYers perform this one?

Estimate on parts replacement and recommendations for crap to change while I'm there?
