Question Transmission housing question

Ok, I was under my car today looking for an oil leak (still haven’t found it), but I look at my tranny and the peep hole cover is missing. Question is, is that necessary or should I just let it be? Also, how does that come off?

That should be covered. It will prevent water or oil from getting into the clutch housing and ruining the clutch, which would be a Bad Thing.

I suggest you cover it if necessary with duct tape until you buy a new cover plate. As you can see in the pic, there are two tapped holes that hold the bolts for the plate.
