transmission assembly 1st/2nd 3rd/4th
as a result of waiting too long to replace my 5th gear syncro my 5th/reverse clutch hub also went out. i finally got the parts and had a friend of a friend make me a socket ( see pics at bottom  )
when i pulled out one of the shift rods think its the 1st/2nd a short fat rod fell out (see pics) i know were the skinny rod goes but am trouble finding what the short fat one does. im thinking it may go in the bevel between rods. the FSM picture is hard to see whats going on and calls for a SST.
any info on were / how to install this pin would be greatly appreciates.
pins
possibly installed through one of these holes

Yes, those are interlock pins. Those bores you've opened are one possible location. I haven't done one of these transmissions in a while so I can't tell you where to put them based on memory alone.
If you check the FSM and/or the documentation I have on davidgeesaman.com you should be able to determine which ones go where.

Going from really fuzzy old memory, I think there were three of those and they fit in there side-to-side like...

something like that. Are you sure there isn't a third one matching those in your hand somewhere? I just can't remember where they go, but I think they are to keep you from shifting into two gears at once.
Sorry I'm not more helpful.

I looked at your video a bunch of times. Seems like something has got to be wrong on gear 1-4 which is causing it to be perma-engaged. Did you check each gear/syncro as you assembled the mainshaft to be sure things had motion? Seems like one gear must be stuck on there somehow to me.

I never got into 1-4 box so hopefully nothing is wrong. I noticed this after I hammered on the bearing maybe when I hammered it on it I moved something? If the bearing is hammered on two far would it shift the shaft over a little? Maybe I can pull the bearing back some and see.

Ok I might be in for a lot of work..... I found this key in my parts washer. I don't remember taking it out of the tranny and the ONLY key I see listed in the fsm is the spedo gear key. I'm hoping it's an old key from my engine rebuild or something. Any one recognize?
