tranny trouble

ok heres how it goes, i was racing some dude in a WS6 trans-am on the highway, and when i went to shift into 4th gear it just wasn't there, after then my car wouldn't go into gear at all, but after a little time i got it into first then the first 4 gears were fine, but i have no 5th or reverse now, anybody have any ideas on what this is? I'm pretty sure it's a linkage problem being that it's 5th and reverse, but i don't know exactly.

It could be a lot of things. First, I would pull up the center console, and make sure the shifter is bolted down snugly. It's not likely that this is your problem, but it easy to check, and a good place to start.

I had the same problem. But Imanage to get it into 5th but it will not go into reverse for anything. End up being the 5th gear synchro.

Most likely it is your fifth gear synchro. There is no linkage on the outside of the mazda tranny so it's really not something you can adjust and fix like on the old muncie 4 speeds.

I agree its something in 5th-rev housing. You will probably need to drop the tranny and remove the housing to see - fix the problem. The shift select rods and 5th-Rev clutch hub are all in there.

See www.davidgeesaman.com for pictures of a rebuild and how to access these parts.
