Tranny pan splash guard?

So I unbolted my tranny pan on one of my spares and found what looks like a splash shield bolted to the inside of the pan. Does anyone know what its function is? It seems on the aftermarket pans that their are no mounting points for the shield or whatever it is. So does that mean its not really needed?

typically transmissions have oil scrapers that sit close to the gears. Mazda calls this an Oil Baffle, item 17-772A > PN R501-17-372

I would figure out a way to install it, my aftermarket pan had mounting points.
