trading my Subaru 2.5RS for a '94

I have a STS prepped 2000 Impreza 2.5RS, and this guy is willing to trade his car for mine, straight up. I have a few questions about the car though. I know that rotaries are notoriously cantankerous. (my best friend's bro had a 10th anniversary and he was ALWAYS working on that car). I am just curious if anybody knows this car/person and can vouch for it? The car is currently running 12lbs of boost according to him. Is this safe/normal? Is he running the right engine management? How long should I expect before a rebuild, assuming that the car is meticulously maintained (fluids, turbo timed, babied). with 60K miles on the car, are there any peripheral things that I should look out for? CV joints, brakes, bad bearings? Each car seems to have their own assortment of problems. From the reading that i've done most people just talk about maintaining the engine, but not much about the rest of the car. I'd greatly appreciate any help or hehe, hand-holding through this process. What shoudl I look for when I pick up the car? What signs should make me just walk away from the deal? Is the company that did the engine rebuild reputable? Is 17.5 a good price for the car? I know, i know. .its a lot of questions, but its also a lot of dough. (at least to me, it is). Thanks a lot and I can't wait to join the Rx7 community.

that looks like a good car to me, and Rototsports here in Charlotte does great work, I say go jump on it...is the paint original? it looks good
with the proper boost control, you should have no problem with the engine or turbos giving you problems...just don't go above 13 psi...GForce ECUs are fine, you may want to upgrade the fuel pump and make sure you keep the fuel filter changed every 15k (spark plugs every 15 k as well)
these cars rock....have fun with it...email me if you have more questions (mstrong@ch2m.com)

If you havent already check out these websites.

I think it is a very good price on a nice car. Those coilovers only sweeten the deal
I dont know much about the GForce ECU, but I've never heard anything bad about it. And yeah, 12 psi of boost is normal with a DP, MP, and catback. Most people recommend not going over 12 psi unless you have an upgraded intercooler.
I think the main trouble spots on these cars are of course the engine (mostly due to improper modding, or lousy maintenance), the turbos, and the 5th gear synco problem. Other than that I think the 7 is on par quality wise with most other high performance sports cars.
As long as the reliabilty mods are done, (see the websites) and deligent care is given they are very reliable. I've had my '95 for over a year now with no real problems.
But my biggest concern here is with you...... If this is your first ride/drive in a moddified Rx-7 you might as well sign your title over now.
Once you sit down in those seats it will wrap its hold on you, like a morphine drip kickin in.
The car's lines, its smoothness, the sound of a rotary, the go-kart handling, the blinding acceleration, and the boost...OMG the BOOST!!
Ok, ok I might be a little biased, but seriously, few cars I have driven (TT supra, 300ZX, Stealth RT, V8 rods) have inspired me like the 3rd Gen Rx-7.
Hope it goes well for ya!
