Traction from a full tank of gas worth the weight?

I went to the track last Friday night and had a difficult time putting the power down. I'm using 285/30/18 G-Force KDW2's on 18x10 wheels but the track prep just wasn't there. Nobody had used the track for a month and they only put down one coat of VHT at the start of the night...not good. 2nd gear was more of a problem than anything...it would spin pretty bad and sometimes start wheelhopping. For comparison with a hard 2nd gear shift on the street the car just scuffs the tires and goes. I was running with a little over 1/8th tank to keep the weight down. The question I have is do you think it would be advantageous to race with a full tank of gas in an attempt to plant the rear end? I'm thinking it will be. I ran 114.5 so the power's decent but the 13.2 that went along with it is pretty bad. The math says with a full tank of gas I should loose roughly 1 mph and 1 tenth off the ET from the best possible run but I bet I could negate the ET loss from having more traction and being able to stay in the throttle. Maybe manage a 12.7-12.8@113.5. The track for tomorrow is at lower altitude (1243' Vs. 2650') so it's possible I may do even better than that.

That was a 2.29. The 60's were a problem but the 2nd gear spinnage was forcing me to back off & pedal on alot of the passes.

I pulled a 2.02 in San Antonio with the stock clutch and more gas (?1/2 tank?). Ended up being a 13.05@110.0 at 12 psi. The 114.5 last week was at 15-15.5 psi with an ACT Xtreme full face.

the key to drag racing is 60' time. That being said 1 tenth faster 60' time yields approx 1.5 tenth lower et.

Run with more fuel in it IMO.

What happens if your fuel pump gets uncovered at WOT? BOOM goes the rotary.

Full tank for traction AND to avoid possible fuel starvation. I use the AVCR to limit boost in 1st and 2nd, so that's a $500 option, too. Wheel hop breaks ****, too.

btw- your car looks great! one of my favorites!

I ran with a 2/3rd tank of gas last night. It went 12.81@113.6 with a 2.197 60'. I launched a little agressively on that one and spun for awhile but the additional weight was worth it. When I would grab second the car would spin for a split second then go...no bad wheelhop. Track prep was better though too so keep that in mind. I'll probably be racing with a decent amount of fuel in the tank from now on.

you need to go to the track with 1/2 tank minimum
surprised nobody mentioned this...lower your tire pressure to 26 that's probably causing most of the wheel hop
you aren't making much power to be having these issues. Also launch a little higher and don't slip the clutch so much if you can
