Tracked the 7 at the strip today for the very first time

i went to the track in london, ky today and ran some "okay" numbers..

ive got a d/pipe and blitz exhaust as the only mods..

my first run i did horrible.. i had a 1 sec reaction time and let off too early... i got a 15.4 at 89.something... my next run i got a 13.7 at 104.6 and another run of 13.8 at 103.5... my best time was a 13.58 run which is a good run the day b4 my birthday but the trap speed was 99.89.. i missed the 3rd to 4th shift though so im thinking i could shave off a couple tenths of a sec..

my question is why is my boost creeping up to 15 or 16 or even 17 sometimes?? it wasnt very cold at all 65-75 degree F the whole time.. is this bad? what should i do?

has anyone w/these modifications gotten these numbers?

any1 w/a stock 7 could you please put ur best ET and trap speed on this thread?? thanks a lot for your help

Times look about right man. What were your 60's? Which track did you run at? Beech bend or Clay city?

Good to see another Kentucky 7 on the board. Check out our little local forum for the automotive scene: http://www.502streetscene.net . There are several 7 owners on the board.

Anyway, pretty decent times, mph looks about right with your e.t.

your boost spike could be your wastegate vacuum hose popping off or being split see here:

Dark, your times are pretty good. I have the same mods as you (HKS DP and Blitz Nurspec catback) and my best time to date is a 13.51 at about 103mph. That was with a 2.08 60', which isn't the best. The car can go a little quicker I think...

Anyway, you need to address the boost creep right away. DO NOT boost that high, ever, not even for a second. I had the same "problem" after I installed my downpipe. It's a very simple fix...pull off your airbox and expose the wastegate line running from the turbo to the WG. What you will need to do is pull off the hose and replace the stock restrictor pill in the line with a Holley #78 jet orifice...the Holley jet has a slightly larger opening than the stock orifice, and this allows more air to get to the WG and push the spring open. Seriously, do it today...the Holley costs like $5 or less from your local speed shop. Hope this helps...

Wow I didn't know there was a strip in london. I'm currently looking for my FD, still haven't found the right one. There are a couple 3rd gens running around louisville however, that I've turned wrenches on. Between all the rotary owners locally problems are usually solved and any work is done amongst us. We've done everything from swaping motors to installing kaaz differentials so we've pretty much got the spectrum covered. There are even a few good tuners locally, tho you'll have better luck geting your car tuned in lexington, I'd assume the guys at RTC could help you out on that.

As other said tho, you need some sort of boost control. Something to keep the boost down as you're geting boost creep. What you're doing right now is a good way to kill a motor. Good luck, and don't forget to check out the website I gave you a link too. You'll be able to talk to even more Kentucky 7 owners.

DarkHeaven,

I have a couple of comments. Your times are not bad for your first time or with those mods.

As for your reaction time... a .645 isn't bad. A .5 is a perfect reaction time and very hard to do...Good Luck! You don't want a .4 reaction time because that would get you a red light.

As for your 60' time...if you cut a 2.0 60' that is very good if you are on street tires. It will be very difficult to do much better than that on street tires and with the mods you currently have. You may want to invest in some ET streets...they really hook-up off the line. They also help eliminate wheel hop.

Did you have wheel hop?

Remember reaction time has nothing to do with your et.

Becareful with that boost or you'll be buying a new engine soon!!!!

The more you practice the better you will get

Cool

it jumps to 16 sometimes and i can attribute 1 psi of that to the fact that the boost guage is miscalibrated.. its shows 1.5 psi wen its turned off instead of zero... and sometimes i dont get the creep but can some1 plz fully explain in detail and be elaborate on how i can shut down the creep.. i dont know where the hell the wastegate is if that helps out on how elaborate ur helps needs to be... sorry just new at this.. thanks for your help in advance... dont wanna blow a motor

like the man said, all you need to do is remove the stock air box to get acess to the WG hose
