define "better"

the 93 touring came with:

leather, sunroof, cruise, bose audio, rear wiper, 3-stage paint, fog lights

I believe that most of these options could be purchased separately on the base model

94 and 95 had PEG/PEP packages that came with the basic options of leather, sunroof, cruise, fog lights, you could add on the BOSE and rear wiper

I believe all 94 and 95 had 3-stage paint

sunroof, bose radio, rear wiper, and leather seats were standard on the touring model

R1/R2 had sude seats, rear spoiler, front lip spoiler, two oil coolers (as opposed to one), different shocks, and a strut tower bar.

Base had none of the above, but some thing were available as factory options.

Don't forget to mention that a sunroof will noticably reduce headroom. If you're tall and have the option, you might want to take that into consideration.

Yeah I actually have a '93 base, no sunroof(which cuts weight a little) and no bose, no front spoiler or rear wing, but with the leather option.

R1, R2, Base = Racers Model
Touring = Luxury Model

R1, R2 = dual oil coolers, stiffer suspensions, rubber front spoiler and rear spoiler. Suide seats, no leather, no sun roof. Resulting a lighter car.

Base = single oil cooler, basic suspensions, cloth seats, no sun roof, no spoilers. Resulting a lighter car.

Touring = leather seats, dual oil coolers, basic suspensions, sun roof, great Bose sound system. Resulting a much heavier car.

I don't know about "much" heavier. The 5-speed Touring weighs 62 pounds more than the R1 and 73 pounds more than the 5-speed base.

Here are the weights for the 93 model year RX-7s, taken from http://personal.cfw.com/~rinaca/thirdgen.html . That site contains good information on the differences between the models and the years.

2789 lbs -- Base Model w/ manual
2857 lbs -- Base Model w/ auto
2800 lbs -- R1
2862 lbs -- Touring w/ manual
2923 lbs -- Touring w/ auto

Also, the Touring does not have dual oil coolers, only one.

Well I still thinks that my statement is valid.
"R1, R2, Base = Racers Model Touring = Luxury Model"
Leather seats doesn't hold as well as cloth and sude seats, and having a hole in your roof weakens the strength of the structure. When you do go racing every little bit counts. They is why in real race teams they spend tens of thousand of dollars and hours of labour just to shave off a few lbs.

you all haven't noted the cruise control, which I think is very important, but my friend doesn't have it on his '93 R1
