Took my car to a Test Only Station in So. Cal...

and passed my smog test! I have an HKS downpipe, a Blitz catback, and a stock cat with 138k miles. The rest of my smog equipment is still there. My sisters FC also passed the smog test. My smog certificate says "Inspection Reason: High Emitter Profile". 2 years ago, my FD passed smog as well. I guess its true that all RX-7s are red flagged.

Yep, my FD was "Test Only" the last two times also. Passed. If you have the stock main cat and your car is tuned and running well you should not have a problem (given that you havn't done anything to flunk the visual).

I passed the test only with intake, downpipe, Hi flow cat, Greddy SP catback & reprogrammed ECU in NorCal. Thought I would fail without changing stuff back, but didn't.

I passed with a dirt air filter and oil with ~2k miles in it. Though, I did change my plugs. Check your plugs (wear/fouling) and wires (resistance).

I just passed Test Only last month with the following:

*PFC with CEL rigged to come on
*fresh rebuilt streetported engine with 200 miles on it
*intake
*SMIC
*BNR Stage 3s
*downpipe
*hi-flow cat

The 25mph test had to be ran in 3rd to keep the rpm below 2500.

Ha, this brings back too many bad memories of time spent at the testing center. Glad to see there were a few sevens that passed there first time. I finally passed with an ls1 smog pump running full time, the car leaned out worse than kate moss in the late 90's, and a stock cat. But now I have an ACE up my sleeve so no more trips to the DMV with my seven. WHOO HOOO!

The only things that could have failed him on the visual are the downpipe and PFC. Both are hard to see, especially if you have the CEL rigged (Don't need an exemption for intake, intercooler, catback, or cat. The BNR's look like the stock twins). Get the Smog Check Inspection Manual like I did. Its all there in black and white. Tyler, I can't wait till you have that motor broken in, put it on the Dyno and get us some numbers!

You guys need to become more educated about what is actually legal. The problem is that most smog shops don't even know the rules.

For example, any intercooler that works with the stock twins is CARB exempt. Period. A hi-flow cat is legal. The downpipe isn't but very few smog techs will see that. The intake is a gray area, because of the vague wording of the smog standard. I was able to get away with my intake box. People with open intakes (other than the HKS) most likely wouldn't.
