Is it too risky to run at the track with a stock intercooler?

I just want to be extra safe, the mods I'm running are:

Cat-back exhaust
Downpipe
High Flow Catalytic Converter
Koyo Radiator
Apex'i Power FC tuned a bit rich

the car is kept at 10-8-10, and does not really overheat unusually

is pushing the car at the track w/o a larger or more efficient intercooler taking a risk?

also, are there any mods that i should definitely definitely do that you don't see up there?

thanks guys, I really want to unleash the 7 at the track but, well, you know how things are

What kind of track?

...an upgraded AST would be good regardless.

Your temps will be hot depending on the ambient temp:

Just keep an eye on your temps and you should be fine.

You'll be fine. You'll just get heatsoaked pretty quick and probably loose some power... but I don't think you'll risk doing any damage as long as you keep your engine temps under control and you're running in tune.

A lot of guys use the stock intercooler at the track... although the ones I know that do don't push their cars super hard.

Keep an eye on your aftermarket temp gauge. If you don't have one, get one. You should be ok unless it is a hot day.

the issue lies in keeping the engine cool so an upgraded radiator like the koyo and upgraded coolers are recomended strongly. rotary extreme has some bitchin sets. im not going to go to the track until i upgrade my oil coolers personally, i do not want to take any chances. some posts on the board scare the **** out of me and i dont want to have those problems prematurely. my .02

It's much more than that. Intake temps are just as (and in some cases more) important as liquid temps.

Mazda had issues with stock IC sys, and redesigned it. If you plan to track it a lot, esp hot days, a better stock mount will have:

1)isolated air flow (not shared with intake)
2)less restriction (stock is 2.5 psi drop at 12 psi boost).
3)more core area

manny, among others, has run the urine out of the stock IC sys, for lots of events, with no problems. The oem map goes very rich when charge temps get hot. You can hit 245F air temps on stock IC at the track at 12 psi.

Seems like this would be no problem once the stock airbox was opened up ala cheap bastard or others....wouldn't it?
