If someone here has used them in the past, please chime in. This goes to show you how really cheap products can be made, and actually how much companies make off of products, those pipes cost around $40 to manufacture in bulk out of the country. This to me is a reasonable price for what a DP and MP SHOULD cost. The manufacturer, or company getting them made is STILL making a huge profit.
It's great that we can get stuff for cheap from them.
You'd have to consider why the other companies charge more. They spend money on developing the product. When you're buying something, you're not just paying for the material and manufacturing cost, you're also paying for the R&D. They have to recoup that money somehow.

Just a small warning... that midpipe looks a lot like the one I bought off of Ebay a while ago. While it does bolt up fine, it would hit the floor when I went in reverse, due to the drivetrain twisting slightly (notice how it only has one bend, and compare that to the expensive pipes).

I feel sorry for those who bought them at that kind of price...

that's ridiculous, $1899 is like 5% off the MSRP. ??! i can't believe someone can sell it at this kind of price. rip off....

I don't have that brand, but may be the same. I have the RVM racing DP from Ebay. VERY high quality, mandrel bent, tig welded, then the welds are gone over again by hand to make sure there are no weak spots. Fit great, and it was only $160. I have said this a million times on the forum here, it's just a damn metal pipe, these manufacturers are RIPPING US OFF.

If I have to pay a little more to help keep shops like Rotary Performance in operation, then I will gladly do so. REAL shops have a much higher overhead than some ebay operation sourcing out to Taiwan. REAL shops have people there that actually develop the product, use it, and can help you with it.

I agree with you rynberg, except it's not a little more. Pettit's SS DP is $300, I paid $160. SO that is basically double. That is highway robbery. If these "shops" cared about you, they would at least use some lube, but no, they go in dry and hard, laughing all the way to the bank.

Those "shops that don't care about you" have to pay higher prices for materials and labor than some sweatshop over in Taiwan. We've got a minimum wage over here; Taiwan doesn't.

I didnt really have a prob i was just tellin people what i had to do. I have had the pipe on my car for some time nowl. I already went to the hardware store.... The pipe fit perfectly. The stock flange is threaded. There are no studs. At least there wasn’t on my car.

If that company actually sold a set they would realize retail is $2320 and not $2,040, hence the $300 price difference.
There are alot of places that have had that stuff listed forever and never change their prices as HKS raises theirs.

You can find Apexi Single turbo kits for $3400 on the net, but that price is 2 years old and is now $4200

Yes i definately don't see paying $400+ for a downpipe/midpipe combo. I paid $100 on ebay for a downpipe and midpipe, and picked up a used exhaust(in new condition) for $190. so for $390 i have a whole exhaust system. Making exhaust pipes isnt rocket science. If i was making a lot of money i wouldnt be so picky but being a poor student on a budget is tough

I got my set on thursday , I will be installing just the downpipe though , keeping the stock cat and adding the Greddy EVO cat-back. Just a question though , will I have to replace the square gasket that goes between the downpipe and the manifold>? I see it comes with the gaskets between the downpipe and midpipe.

there was a big thread about this a month ago, we went over this. A pipe is basically a pipe. Its Tig welded, and stainless. i asked a guy who had one and he loves his. Says he just had to replace his old rusted bolts.

There seems to be some confusion about just how many FD's there are in the US as a total possible sales base compared to your average Honda or Toyota. The economies of scale, look it up. A Diablo is just a Geo with some extra cylinders and body work, come to think of it there's probably a bodykit that makes it look the same too hehe.

I thought the preaching about prices was a bit funny. A place that just stumbled across some sweatshop in SouthEast Asia that makes downpipes and then sells them on Ebay is scolding real shops that design, test and manufacture parts? These shops, not including myself in this, that specialize in 3rd gens etc. have to work on a fairly small volume basis to cover the cost of a storefront, insurance, employees, shop, tools, stock and on and on. Without those places existing and making those products your sweatshop wouldn't have any products to copy. You can be damn sure our new friend Mike wouldn't be creating them.

Remember these shops have been working on 3rd gens since a lot of the people complaining about how much things "should" cost were 6 years old. Often they have families to support or car habits to pay for etc. and it's sure not going to come from volume sales of 3rd gen parts.

The real point is you bought a rare specialty car, quit acting like you bought an Integra or Civic.

I don't make exhausts and haven't for almost a decade so I don't have any personal axe to grind. I just find it laughable.

Of course the consumer can buy whatever product they like but the preaching from some ebay seller was a bit too much, sorry.

I couldn't agree with you more, but unfortunately we have a whole new breed of third gen owner, the funny thing is being proud of what you drive. (ie the guy who says "I drive a FD"), but wont support the guys who make driving his FD more exciting "why should I pay more!!!", the guys who spent the time fitting and refitting the stuff to get it to work as good as it does only to be ripped off by the rats who choose to copy rather than be creative, and could care less about you and your RX7, just your money. As far as the it's just some pipes and welds your also paying for development time. If it was that easy and cheap just go ahead and make it. Why even order one. Wait I know why because it's convenient, because someone took the time to develope it, something Mikey here wouldn't know about.
