Thanks for the idea.

I'm sure if s-thetikz had an Enzo he would drive it every day. "Hey man it's a car, drive it!" Pay for the 30k dollar brake job every year. (I am in no way comparing an RX-7 to an Enzo).

I'm used to the local guys giving me **** about the lower miles on my car. But it always seems to come from the dumb ***** that have 150,000 miles on the clock.

My CYM is currently at 58K and change. Bought her in March of 2000 with 39K on the odometer, so you do the math. Yes, I enjoy driving the car, but it's not my daily driver and I DO enjoy every mile spent behind the wheel. I almost enjoy working on the car as much as driving (although I'm not in Jim Lab's league)

I'm getting rotten mileage because 90% of my driving is in stop and go traffic, when the engine is cold. When I do get on the freeway, it's up to 100 mph or so, as fast as I can, and then off the freeway. I rarely take the car out of the small town that I live in. On the rare occasion that I take a trip, I get about 24 mpg on the freeway .

So the point is to buy low & sell high, right?

Problem is you have to store the car for 20 + years to see any appreciation (maybe)

Lets see a show of hands of people on this board (most of them are in their 20's) who can afford to do this?

Then I have to ask, why did you pick this car in the first place?

Hummm, for me I liked the looks & performance.

Never did I think "Im gonna buy this to sell for a profit".
Hell, I could barely afford the damn thing in the first place.

If it strokes your ego to say you have a 13 year old car with 50K miles, more power to ya.

Problem is your car is seldom ever worth what YOU think it is. Ask a Corvette Z06 owner.

Don't get me wrong everyone on this board will tell you it's worth big $$$$$, but will you actually get it?

Every time you drive it will pain you as the miles tick away. Finally on the day you part with it for a huge profit you'll feel great.

Meanwhile I'll be racking up the miles on my car & feeling great everyday.

Park you CYM & buy a beater FD. Feel great everyday.

/\ Well, for me it was a thing of education. I went looking for an FD with low miles to buy and found one. I bought my FD with 26k on the clock so that I could learn the car the way it started out being (minus a few reliability upgrades). I know that the possibility is great for things to go wrong with this car so I would rather learn what I did to the car than to buy a FD with 175k on the chasis and 15k on a rebuild and not know what the car had been through. In other words, somebody out there has to be picky about miles for others to buy FDs to begin with. I'm not saying I am (I've put 3k on mine in a month's time) but I was looking to buy from someone who was.

A collector car to me is a car I want to keep for a long time. Maybe get some quality time with my future son fixing it up and letting him drive it (when he gets old enough .
I am NOT trying to make money off my car.
The reason I don't drive my car that much is that I always have a couple of daily drivers I would rather drive on a day by day basis. Not only because they get better gas milage, but because they are actually comfortable and modern.
Sorry I love my Seven but I just can't live without the Nav and plush leather seats in my IS.

Now that's damn great!! I guess I should have asked before spouting off like that. I work 3 miles from work and I drive the 91 FC daily. I guess I should fill it up and see what it's getting since it sounds like the same situation as yours. I'll probably end up in the 8-12 range as well, but it did get 24 mpg average for my wife and I's first trip to St. Augustine and back. That includes the entire trip. Now if only the 05 RX-8 would do that good.

I drive my fd every single day of my life that it is in my posession. Miles really only matter in the eye of the beholder and miles can mean many, many different things to one person as opposed to another.

In my cym's case, i bought it 02-04-05 with 15k orginial miles on the odometer and now 04-17-06 i have 39k o nthe odometer. Some people almost **** themselves when they find out how much i drive. But let me tell everyone on this board something about driving...

I can't ******* help it, it's the single biggest addiction in my life, something I have to do everyday. When I found my cym I fell in love with it right away. So a putting a lot of miles on my fd isnt making it worth any less to me, and it most certainly isn't becoming a pos seven. (which in my opinion it takes a lot more than 100k+ miles and some scratched paint to make a seven a pos) Because, I take great care of my car, i take pride in the fact that my fd is mine and everyone else that has one and truely knows the "value" of an fd (and i mean mental and physical satisfaction of value not monetary value) and thats something we as fd owners can appreciate.

As you can see, miles mean almost nothing to me, as Im sure is agreed by some and still disagreed with by others, it will never change. But Im simply stating that its not always miles, and how much or how little you drive your car. Im never going to sell my fd, so you can see why miles dont mean that much to me. They are just pretty much an indicator of how far Ive driven, when I need to change the oil or this or that... blah blah. And by no means am I bashing low mile owners, all the more power to them. But miles are just miles... if youre talking about a current like, 05-06 with like 150k on em, then yeah.. miles would be a factor. But when it comes to fd's and fc's and fb's/sa's miles are in a much different context that is a little different than that of todays cars.

My FD has 112k miles and I drive it every chance I get. The key is to take care of it, and replace/fix things as you can, stay on top of the maintenance etc. Most people that see my FD think it's only a few years old (and FD guys assume it has many less miles), a lot of that is due to the fresh paint job, along with many new interior pieces and exterior trim pieces. Lots of this stuff (interior parts) won't be available from Mazda soon, so I am getting it while I can!
