The over-the-counter octane boosters are pretty much worthless. Unless you are mixing your standard gas with something MUCH higher, it's not worth it.

As far as a JDM clip requiring higher octane, unless you are trying to use a JDM ECU (and that's not recommended) it won't matter using US octane.

Ive read some tests done on octane boosters, and while they arent all that great, they arent worthless either. Most octane boosters are rated to raise your octane levels 4 to 6 points, and that part is not true, but you will get 1 to 3 points out of them, so they do help somewhat. Also, I believe that the Japanese have a different rating method for their octane levels, so you cant compare their gas to ours directly without first figuring out what mathematical formula they use for their calculation.

If you decide to use an octane booster, Im pretty sure that they all do pretty much the same thing, but when I took my old car to races (legit) I used the N02 brand, its a little more expensive, but if I remember correctly, its a more concentrated formula. Good luck.
