Howard have you followed Xavier's project with the PFC? Things are coming along quite nicely. From FC Tweak to the present. Just curious, if I recall you are not a PFC guy.
I have to agree with your post though. Of course, now that things are going insane I am getting ready to put a bunch of love back in mine. She is running strong, but I want to attack the brakes. The only thing I was not pleased with where the brakes on my last track run and even at the Deal's Gap.
Do we have any word on Mazda regarding keg production? Will they fire that assembly back up anytime soon, ir are we left with what we have around?

The issue is Mazda HAS fired up the rotary assembly line to build the new 8C and 16C rotary engines. Therefore they are no longer able to produce 13B-REW or parts at the rotary engine plant.
BTW same thing happened back in early 2000s when Mazda switched to 13B-MSP production.

Is that official? I don't know why it would be an issue with them pumping out some more REWs if the need was there. I don't know all the logistics behind it though.
HIROSHIMA, Japan - Mazda Motor Corporation announced that, on June 22, the company started mass production of the European model of the MAZDA MX-30 e-SKYACTIV R-EV at Ujina Plant No. 1 in Hiroshima City.
Mazda only has one rotary production line and they have to retool it for whatever engine they are doing a production run of.
Mazda started 8C rotary mass production over a year ago and we are seeing the price effects of the 13B-REW stocks declining.
actually i just checked and Mazda USA has more FD engines in stock now then they have had in ~5 years, which is a surprise
they are obviously still making them. you have to remember for the last 5 years there was no stock, they were all built to order.

Are we all panicked for nothing lol? How about the cost. I could see that being the problem.
I know about the one line, I just never thought it was an issue to replace molds and tools, but again. I have no idea about the process.
they have the space, if you've seen pics its a huge building. they also used to make way more engines, the 1st gen's were like 300 a day, the REW is like 300 a year.
however i do feel like they put the 8C (the new engine) production line right in the same place where they used to assemble the REW/MSP engines.
also they only have something like 5 employees in the rotary engine plant, so its a big empty building.

They're stocked because no one wants to pay the prices for those engines. Gradual price increases are one thing, but a price doubling, over night, is what encourages swaps.
I called Mazda Motorsports a couple weeks ago. One of the guys behind the parts desk told me there are like ~20 13b-rews sitting in stock. He said if people want them, the part numbers can be renabled on the website- it's just the price is like $10,500 now. I was also told only like 2 motors have been sold since the price hike....
I mean, not buying them at that price is what will ultimately bring the prices down. Nobody wants inventory sitting around. If they made them, like, $8,500 they'd probably move them.

^Exactly! Inventory sitting around doesn't generate any profit, if they can't sell any at $10K each, they need to cut the price down to the point where they can move inventory but still make a decent profit on them.

I know how to order them, and it's not $10,500 or $8,500, it's below that before shipping.

its the US, you get a tax write off if you throw it away, so there is zero incentive to lower the price.
my old boss is still mad at Mazda because he offered to buy all of the Rx3 dashboards at a discount and they said no, and took the tax credit and ran them over with a forklift instead

Feels like there's more to that story. Yes, you can write off the cost to make unsold inventory as an expense, but you write off those costs anyway for stuff you sell. I wonder if somehow with the time passed they were able to double-dip on it, or the discount was below the cost of manufacture. anyway, sucks.
you can buy new iron plates, rotor housings, and rotors shipped direct from JP for less than Motorsports racer wholesale pricing with free shipping (over $1000 order), some crazy low pricing there now due to the exchange rate. And Mazda USA has their pricing jacked up compared to the JP market imo.
it makes no sense to buy a rebuild compared to having one rebuilt, especially if you intend to tear it down and modify it.
I want to say I bought S4 8.5 turbo rotors for $650 each, a pair front & rear REW irons for under $1000 total for both, etc., that’s shipping included. I saw a deal on REW front rotor housings for under $700 each shipped about 2 months ago. Good pricing is out there if look hard enough or happen to be in the right place at the right time.
the worst thing of all is that the Mazda USA PDCs are the absolute bottom of the barrel shipping packers in the world. Engine parts in a box 5x or larger than the factory box with hardly any packing in it, and it bouncing and banging around all the way. The shipment of a single iron plate ordered through Motorsports was beyond infuriating; hardly any packing, falling out of the shipping box, etc.
exactly as it shipped … exactly the opposite of what I pay way less for out of Japan
. .
edit: I just checked several sources, and can order all three REW iron plates and two REW front rotor housings for ~$2850 shipped from Japan. Maybe less even with some more effort.
