Tie rod end boots

Is it possible to get just the boots that go on the tie rod ends? Or, is there a cheap fix using a universal boot someplace? I noticed both of mien are ripped.

The dust boot is there to keep dust and dirt from going into the ball joint and mix with the Grease inside. If your dust boot broke, you grease inside the ball joint will probably get contaminated, also you will loose some grease too. Replaceing the boot is just a quick fix, you don't know if the ball joint are still in good shape. I would not take short cut and would suggest replacing the whole tie rod. They should not be an expensive part.

You can replace just the boot and clip. But if they are torn, be sure you inspect the ball joint well.

I agree. I just havn't had time to really examine them yet, and since I know I can get the tie rod end-although I affraid to ask how mcuh they are-I want to see if I can jsut get the boots, incase it coems down to that.

Where can I find the boot and clip alone?

I don't think the tie rods are too expensive. I had the same problem and just got 2 new rods. I believe $35 ea or so. To test you're supposed to put on a spring tension tool and measure the force needed to move the threaded rod. If it's loose then no need to test - it's shot. Also if you see rust then replace...

Tie Rod should not be more than $40 bucks. The Boot and Retaining Ring would cause you $5 bucks.
