Ticket in NJ for no front plate
Yikes....
I just got my FD on the road after wating 3 months for paperwork (That's another story in itself) and I got popped for no front plate.
Where's the best place to mount the plate. I have the mounting bracket from Malloy. I'd rather not mount it above the hood line, that takes too much away from the styling of the front end

That is just bad luck, I never got a ticket for having no plates in the front. If you must then get the updated 99 spec bumper with the plate holder molded on or you can get plate holders that can mount right under your opening for the radiator (the top part of the opening). They have "L" shape brackets that can hold the plates so you don't have to drill holes on your bumper.

If you're interested, I can get a photo of the installed plate.

Yea but the brakes get fresh air from there don't they?
I live in Jersey as well. The one of the first things I did was get the mount. I wanted it to go below the fender line but then you will block fresh air going to the rad. If I were you, I would just mount it in stock position and enjoy your car. The car still looks hot with the plate there. Also make sure to cover the back of the screws so they don't dent or scratch your bumper. I noticed in alot of pics that people have 2 dents on their bumper where the screws are located.

I drove without a front plate for a couple of months after i got my FD. Then i sorta "ran" a red light in front of the police station and cop said a whole mess about how he can nail me for no plates, running that light and "god knows what else".
So til that day i always had a front plate so they cant do ****.
Now i have a 99 front bumper with plate holder so i always have a plate.
For your story, i think cops are just busting ***** for everything now because we're approaching the end of the month.
There was like 3983948349 cops i saw today going to work, going on my lunch break and going home and i never seen anything like it.
It must have been a slow month this month and they really need to make their quota.

Did I happen to mention that Kansas has some of the highest registration fees in the country? It still costs me almost $300 every year to get my tag for my FD, the Volvo is almost $400. My five cars cost me around $1500 per year just to tag them.

I agree with above - that is just bad luck. Pay it, move on, and don't worry about it.
In the last 13 years or so I have not had any plates and have only gotten 1 ticket I believe, and that was because my inspection was expired - not for the plate.

Unless your a full-time student or active-duty military (or in some instances a military dependent), your usually declared a resident of whatever state your living in after 30 days.
And Baja, you just made me feel better about my State's personal property tax. It's bad, but after the car gets to be so old they set a minimum rate. Fortunately my FD now qualifies and it's not that^ bad.

Since the OP is located in NJ, you guys have to remember that things may be more/less strict than when you are. Like I said before, I wouldn't chance it. You could be spending that ticket money on upgrades and stuff. Don't skimp on that just for the sake of looks.

Here in VA it's only 25 bucks for a no front plate ticket. So I leave mine off on the 996 and take the gamble. Got a ticket for it once, and the second time the cop gave me a warning.

I actually had a buddy of mine back into my FD and mangle my plate and bracket. It was a good excuse to ditch it. This was few years ago and I'd say I got pulled over about 4 times. 1 time the guy actually gave me a ticket for the plate and tints but that was before I put the plate in the front window. So I ended up putting the plate in the front window right behind the instrument cluster. The last 3 times I mention that my buddy hit me and I was waiting on a replacement part from the dealer..yada yada. I'd usually get a bs look from the cop so I'd whip out the mangled plate holder that i have conveniently tucked away behind the seat. No tickets since :-)

You know you can fight it and win right. If you plan on mounting your plate you can beat the ticket all you have to do is mount the plate before the court date on the ticket. Take some pics of the car with the plate mounted and wait for your court date to come up go to court and show the judge that you fixed the issue and you pay 0. I did it and paid ****

Wait... New Jersey requires plates in the front? I've been meaning to look that up for awhile; if something is legal on a vehicle in the state it is registered in, you don't have the proper PC to stop them. There's a ton of NJ students around here I've wanted to stop and couldn't find PC quick enough to do it. Now that I know...
