Throttle Linkage

After putting Dan's car back together....or most of it, I was checking my check valves when Charlie mentioned that my throttle linkage was a bit loose. We tightened it up and facilitated the heel toe shifting with excitement. I let the cable out a little bit when I got home because it was idling up at 1500 when the car got warm. I evened it out around 1000 rpm so that it was snug enough that the pedal had no or unnoticable play in it so that throttle response came with the slightest tap. This is a good idea for everyone to make a note to do sometime if they haven't checked it in a while. Makes bliping and heel toeing much easier and helps with throttle control in corners. On another note, I have a torque brace fitted in my car. For those of you who have the rigid mount one available at the store, this may be a good idea to try. I've installed bushings everywhere on my brace mounts and found that there is still some engine vibration just above idle and just below 1000 rpm. My car would often begin to shudder uncomfortably when the radiator fans kicked in or if I was at a stop light and I had any given combination of accessories running (lights, ac, etc). Sometimes the car would compensate and idle a little higher, smoothing out the vibration, but not all the time. I tightened up the throttle linkage so that the car would run right around 1000 rpm where use of accessories and radiator fan activation would not cause the car to shudder and make the girl in the passenger seat think that its because the car is almost 10 years old. After a good run, it will lower to 900 or so, but not enough to get it shaking again. Its a good idea to clean off the gunk from the linkage cams and springs because the throttle will not always return to its true resting position and adjusting it can be a pain to get where you want it.

The 1000 rpm idea was more of a torque brace user suggestion, but I figured I'd share one of the tinker's of the day with everyone so that if there's people out there who haven't checked the tension on their linkage cable in a long time, they may find that adjustment is needed and/or wanted. All you need is two 12mm combination wrenches- the two nuts tighten and loosen by contra-rotating them. Hope this idea is useful for some people.
Happy Heel-Toeing!
