Question Throttle boggs out of first gear, what could it be?

Hello,

I've recently bought a 1994 RX7 from allrotor93. the only mods done are a koyo rad, AST delete, HKS twin power. I noticed trying to get out of first gear the car bogs down and I either have to compensate and give more gas which makes me basically burn out, or I stall out. I figured out this system where I rev it once to get the RPM's up then start off with the clutch but I really don't want to have to do that all the time. This is my first rotary powered car and I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Boggs out? Like stalls like you need practice driving clutch or like at low rpm's it falls flat on its face when you give it gas?

Maybe you have an unsprung clutch that makes it more difficult to drive.

Haha, my clutch game is pretty tight. It's like I step on the gas and it sputters. After about a sec it revs up and I can engage the clutch.

Would adjusting the throttle cable help me? Or would that mess with my idle?

Does it still do it if you disconnect the HKS? If that doesn't do it then I would probably start looking for intake leaks or possibly a cracked hose going to a sensor like the MAP sensor. Seems like your car behaves like it has a tuning issue similar to what a carb would do if the accelerator pump wasn't working. Since you have stock ecu I would look for anything else that could affect air/fuel mix. Sounds like it catches back up and runs well after the initial bog, that's why I think small leak like the line to the MAP causing a delayed response. Also check the TPS, you should be able to find instructions on setting that somewhere on the forum.

A rotary engine will bog if you try to accelerate at 1000 rpm. Thats just the nature of the beast. You should be around 2000 rpm (or higher) once the clutch is completely engaged.

I might not be explaining it right. It doesn't bog when I set off. It's when I try to get it to 2000 rpm it just sputters. I'm going to check the things suggested and report back.

Thanks.

Update: I tried the easiest fix, which was reset the ecu but that didn't work. I then removed the twin power and it completely fixed the problem. The only thing I can think is since my car is basically stock I dont have the supporting mods to justify the extra spark. Thats just my guess...

I now have a smooth idle and no hesitation out of first gear.

Thanks for the help.
