Threw a belt? Can I drive it

I have a 93 RX-7 with 30,000 miles on it. Tonight one of my belts disentegrated on me. It is the belt that drives the A/C compressor and the alternator. My quesiton is can I drive the car to the dealership or does that belt drive any critical cooling components which would make towing it safer?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

That belt also drives the alternator, which you need for things like spark, and starting the car. So i'd say don't drive it. Is it at your house? Why not get the belt and put it on yourself, instead of towing it to the dealer. Very simple to do, and it'd save you money.

How simple is it?? I can't even get my hand in there. Steering does not seem to be a problem, but my charge light along with ABS light, and oil light all came on.

is there a belt on the alternator? is there a belt on the ps pully... if steering seems fine then it was the back belt... (**side note** it must suck to have an FD w/ 30k on it ) go get yourself the correct sized belt from napa, get a 10mm socket w/ an extension 6-12" and lower the idler pully bolt that is inbetween the p/s pump and the alternator (its the only bolt head pointing at it) then find the bracket that is next to the alternator that has a bolt that is on top of it w/ a nut on the front of it... loosen the nut so it is less than finger tight then use the 10mm again to lower the alternator. (you may have to use your hand to press it down a bit) then you can use a flashlight and figure out how the belt goes on there... better yet look on your hood. there should be a diagram for it I believe then pull off the old ones and slip new ones on... suggest replacing both if one of the things came flying off.
Good luck and pm me if you still need help.

Zoomspeed is exactly right the, alternator belt is also the water pump belt, I would not start your car for more than 30 seconds, let alone drive it. No coolant flow is an excelent way to warp housings.
