Question Three Mod Rule question

I have these mods:
1. Racing Beat cat back (dual tip)
2. Down Pipe
3. Racing Beat factory intake mod

Do I need fuel management?
Does the climate I live in factor into this? (I'm in Phoenix)

I'm not looking for anything radical just to make it quick without sacrificing reliablility.

I have seen differing opinions on this......what is the current thinking?

As long as you keep the boost to 10psi you should be ok. I wouldnt do a fourth mod until you can supliment fuel.

(i ran IC, intake, DP, CB for a while fine on stock ecu, not a smart idea however!)

Keith, do a search on "mod rule" and you'll get a TON of info...

Why do you say that? What happened? Did you have a boost controller?

You're fine, you don't need an ecu yet.

So you could go way the '3 mod rule' so long as you never go above 10psi? Is that right? I mean THEORETICALLY, if someone were to have intake, dp, mp, exhaust and never went past 10psi, he's okay?

haha awesome, my avatar thing works!

The racing beat intake tubing isn't very well designed. The stock airbox can be modified for much better performance. Check this thread.

If you keep your boost to a maximum of 10 psi, you will be ok.

keep it at 10 and you'll be fine. although if you spike you could kill you engine.

isn't it hard as hell to keep it under 10 psi? that's like driving like a granny... I'm in the same boat as well, I just dropped in a new engine with intake and exhaust mods. Don't have the money now but soon I will get a M2 or Pettite ECU. Better then risking running lean and damageing my engine.

I ran that setup for a while on the stock ecu...just keep your boost at or real close to stock levels and you should be fine....

As for the 3 mod rule...it's pretty much BS because every FD reacts a bit different to mods...one car with a DP may hold the stock boost levels and then another cause spikes like crazy...really hard to tell...Just watch you boost.

Uhh...that's what a boost controller is for.

You won't run lean with the stock ecu with those mods. Period. If you guys won't believe us veterans, go to a dyno with an accurate wideband (and make sure on that point, the last dyno I went to, their sensor was reading at least a whole point lean) and see for yourself what your A/F ratios are. You will see we are right.

The only thing that really has to do with modifications is your cooling system.

I've I lived in AZ (I used to and I wish I was there now), I would definitely have an upgraded radiator and a vented hood.

altitude has a lot more of an effect than climate.

i agree. i'm on 3 mods (DP,Hiflow, and catback) and am about to do the ECU next. I imagine my car would run better if I had done it sooner...ie I sometimes have problems when I'm idiling or doing short traffic jam jumps.

If you don't have a boost gauge, you should borrow or buy one. You don't have to install it. Just hook it up to your manifold nipple, run a hose thru the window, and check your boost. You NEED to know what it is to see if you are approaching danger.
