those of you with the BNR stage 3's...
My BNR stage 3 turbos are only spooling about half as quickly as others (including Bryan) claim they should. I followed the same non-seq. set-up as every recent thread suggests but am still only hitting 5psi @ 3k rpms and 10 psi @ 4k rpms. I know at those rpm's my psi should be double those figures but I'm not sure what I'm missing. It holds a steady 19lbs from 5k to redline so I know there is not a vacc. leak. My mods. are as follows:
Freshly built streetport
Pettit downpipe and high-flow cat, HKS cat back
Pettit intake
M2 IC
HKS twin power ignition
Power FC (tuned by Steve Kan via mail, fine tuning happens next month)
Profec B Spec II
Denso fuel pump w/ 1300 secondaries
I obviously have others but those should be the pertinent mods. that would have an effect on my turbos spooling time. Anything you guys can think of would be great, even if its something totally obvious.
TIA, Brett

I would have no problem driving somewhere if thats what it took. I believe a bunch of us down south (Ga, Tenn, Bama) are planning to fly Steve Kan out for a fine tuning session next month or so... kind of trying to get these little kinks ironed out before then. (Thats only if my 1300 secondaries can hold out that long )

hey Tim,
yeah, I hear the boost before 5k rpms its just that the turbos should be spooled at a full 18-20 psi by 4k rpms... at that point I only have half that (10 psi). I believe my Profec B spec II is set-up for optimum spool-up time where my "start boost" and my "set boost" settings are as close together as possible without having a boost spike. I am getting 20 psi but not until 5k rpms or so... maybe something to do with the Power FC settings??
Brett
oh yeah, last day for what??

if you're non sequential now.... your wastegate is not sealed... sounds to me like you need to adjust the rod a bit. my single turbo car had a problem where the hole for the wastegate was enlarged too much. well it started cracking at teh wastegate hole and over time the wastegate developed a 1/16" cressent moon type leak between the flapper gate and the housing. When I pulled the housing apart and put the closed wastegate up to the light to see the size of teh leak.... it wasn't too big about 1/16" total... so I put a new housing on since my old one was cracked out.
with the old housing i would floor it in 2nd at 2K I made full boost of 15 psi slowly but surely at 4100 rpm... then it held solid until redline.... now with changing nothing else but replacing only the exhaust housing with another new one no leaks at the wastegate.... it make full boost very quickly having 15 psi at 2800 rpm!!!! that little crack made a 1300 rpm difference....
I suspect with you that your wastegate is either shot (the acuator itself here not the valve) or that your rod is adjusted incorrectly, when you want your valve closed. it is actually stroked out and holding it open a bit.... Ill put 30$ on this being your problem.... especially if you are using a manual boost controller.

With Profec, should plug the WG actuator vent line ... 2nd nipple on actuator.

Forcefed1, which single is that?

I also think the problem is between wg control and the high flow cat. All the people that have reported fast spoolup did so with a midpipe. The high flow could be hurting some.
Obviously the spool will be affected some with weather also, but it shouldnt be as slow as your talking about.
BTW - How do they feel at 19psi hehe

yeah, I should get a midpipe on before my final tuning I hope.
Stephen, I think at that high of boost it is measured 19 pis... because thats what I did the first time at WOT. It takes alot of self control to use the 'low" setting when driving around town.
Tim, already done. Just enjoying a little free time right now.

Don't go and jinx the guy. However, I'd love to feel an FD under 19 to 20 psi! The only time I felt boost like that was in my best friend's WRX when he was running about 21-22psi. That was a feeling! But nothing like a rotary could produce given the same boost and good tuning.
