Thinking of jumping in an rx7 need advice
You need to first read and go through the FAQ page. I bet 95% of the questions you are asking have already been covered numerous times.
Once you have read through it and have any other questions you feel were not answered feel free to post away on here..

Reliability
Good Gas mileage

Peppy, but not Fast.
What the FD isn't: All of the above.
Please advise...
Look at the stickies at the top of the 3rd Gen section and read the FAQ. The search function will also help you alot. You have to be proactive in looking for information about this car. There is a ton of information that has already been discussed in the previous years. If you come upon a problem that you cant seem to figure out and cant find the solution by searching THEN start a thread for help. There probably arent many questions that havnet already been asked in the 13 years this car has been around.
Alot people in the forum would advise you to NOT buy this car if it's going to be your FIRST car. FD's can be quite quirky and expensive not only in the initial payment but also in mantainence, upgrading reliability and in upgrading performance. But hey, if you've got the money( just the insurance premiums will absolutely kill most young drivers), go for it. They're great, sexy, fast, fun cars.

I'd say get a miata for your first car. They are really fun to drive! After learning "how to drive" on a miata, you can get a rx7 and truly appriciate it's handling and acceleration.

The FAQ is this one: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/
'Jumping in' and 'first car' give me a bad feeling. This is not a car for spontaneous buyers.
Start by reading the first two links of the second post, then continue reading the rest.
