Thinking of getting a Rx-7

Hey I currently own an N/A 300ZX and want more power. After I graduate this year I plan on buying a newer, faster car. I was thinking of either a TT 300Z or a 93+ RX-7 both with low miles. I know basically all there is to know about Zs and now I'm looking in RX-7s.

What are the reliability problems?
-apex seals, burning oil, turbos (i heard they burn out quickly due to the close pre-cats.) etc.

What kind of mileage can you expect to get out of a well maintained rotary engine?

How much are repairs?

Where can I look for an unmodified one?

Any details will help, I prefer to know the problems more than the good points. I know this things can be drag machines but I'm not looking for a super-speedster.
I like the twisties more. I am just looking for a car that will last awhile and lightly mod to the equivalent of a 400 flywheel hp TTz (3400lbs).

BTW- money will not be a problem

Thanks for the info!

Take care of it. It will run like any other car. Are you Amels boy? With the Red Z with the Stillin front?

If money isn't a problem, have my brother do a highly-built 2+2 TT Z32 for you.

if money is no prob......go for it...i used to have a 91 n/a 300z....and now own a 93 rx....the interior of the rx-7 sucks compared to the z.... the quality of build isn't as good.....but don't get me wrong the rx hands down is a sweeter car....there is no comp. when it comes to perf. & styling....the rx-7 will be in the shop alot more and i would suggest getting a second car if you don't already have one...to keep it on the road and reliable you need to find a specialist that knows everything about this car....the insurance is also a bitch if your under 25.....if you do decide to get one make sure you buy the RIGHT one....read this forum and learn everything you can before you buy one.....it is know as being one of the most tempermental cars one the road.....but it is also the most enjoyable.......

thanks

thanks teamchin for you reply. And ijneb; I didn't mention that I am graduating college this year not high school so thats why I am going to have some cash. I posted this because i am new to the site and don't know where to go for info. It's hard to search for problems when you don't know what to search for. If I searched for Rx-7 probs I would get thousands of queries, I'm not going to go through them all.

If this car is "tempramental" I probably wont go for it. Could you please list some things I could search on, for more detail.
Thanks again!

water/coolant seals, apex seals, cooling system, running lean, fuel modifications, midpipe, aftermarket/standalone ecu. search for those things and u will get some ideas. as on any 8 year old car u will need to change teh suspenshion and a few other things to keep it in good running condition, especailyl it being a sports car. search for interior flaking, the 94s had much better interrior no paint flaking and such they stopped painting the interrior parts in 94. as long as u give teh car enouf fuel and dont overheat it there are not many problems. it will eb worse in teh rain/snow then the z. 5th gear syncro problem. and search for boot spiking. all that should give u a pretty good idea what u shoudl and shoudl nto do to the car and what goes bad on it even when its unmodified. oh and almost forgot search for an AST air separation tank and aftermarket radiator are a must.
