Thinking of getting FD

Right now I have an FC but was thinking about trading the ol 2nd gen in for a 3rd gen but I heard 3rd gens have even more problems, my 2nd gen has had its share of problems and I wanted to know what kind of problems the 3rd gen gives and how much you all spend on maintanence, thanks

if i were you, id just keep the fc, drift/race it untilled you crash it and then upgrade. Get good at driving the fc first (its also a lot more fun because you would not be that scared to crash it). FD's need a lot of relibility mods, so much so that you would probally be better off driving it till it blows and doing the relibility mods on the next engine (much more worth it money wise).

good luck

hahahaha... "drive it 'til you crash it"

HAHAHAHA oh lord... sound advice.

back to the original question. It's impossible to put a dollar figure on it because every car and every driver is different. One of the biggest problems with the FD is cooling, so you'll want to be sure the cooling system is tip top (all aluminum). Beyond that, you want to make sure the pre-cat has been removed and you're not running too much boost.

Everything else aside, the FD is probably one of the least reliable cars on the road - not to say that it can't be reliable if you take proper care of it, but it doesn't take neglect well.

if you get one, do all the reliability mods right away (you can use the same "reliability" parts on a new engine if you have to rebuild it) and pay attention to it. If you do it right, it shouldn't cause you too many problems.

There are tons of threads on this forum that you should be able to find - that deals with reliability mods.

But my guess - from my limited personal experience - if you do the work yourself, it should cost you under a grand for all the reliability mods. Unless you count a bigger IC a reliability mod... hehe.

Ofcourse if you pay someone to do it.. it will run you 2 to 3 times that.

Do a search on "reliability mods", and my advice to anyone thinking about a FD is not to get one if it's your only car. Maybe keep the FC as a daily driver?
