Thinking of buying 1993 RX-7
I'm new to this forum, and I'm sure this question has been asked millions of times, but bear with me please.
My friend is selling a 1993 Rx-7 for pretty cheap. The car will be a daily driver of mine (10,000 miles per year at most). The car has brand new engine, wiring harness, silicone hoses, new radiator, etc. Also the car has Aftermarket exaust, downpipe, intercooler, boost controller, blow-off valve, and Apexi Power FC. New tranny was installed on the car not to long ago. Motor and tranny are still under warranty.
My main worry is how reliable the car is going to be with all the mods done to it, and used as a daily driver. I'm a college student, so i don't have lots of money to trow around into repairing the car if anything goes wrong.
Couple of my friends have rx-7's but they are weekend drivers or show cars only. So I can't take their advise on how reliable the car is.
Hopefully you can help me out. By the way how is insurance premiums on RX-7's

I am also a college student and I have only owned my fd for a little more than a year now. So far the "original" engine blew for not changing the hoses in time and I am going on my third clutch, one glazed for not breaking it in properly and the first (stock) had 57k on it. Keep in mind that I could have prevented some of these problem by keeping up with maintenence and proper break in. I presonal love my car problems and all. Hopfully the worst is behind me. I would do a search about reliablility mods and check how much this car has done and ultimately it will have to be your descision, if you can afford to or not. Even though it is under warranty, will that help if it will be off the streets for a week or two.

It has been asked 1,000 times but that is OK. Everyone wants one of these cars. In fact 95% of RX7 owners said they would buy another and only 2% said they would not. Only Porche, Alfa Romeo and Honda Civic owners are as loyal.
In my view the 3rd generation RX7 provides the best sports car performance for the cost, even 8 years after the last one sold. There are masses of original-equipment spare parts available and masses of performance parts. If you are not mechanically inclined there are lots of RX7 specialty shops and lots of internet advice. There is AVID club support with lots of guys that really know the cars. Dealers are not always the best at servicing these babies. The car is very thirsty and has very little practical luggage space. The car is rare so exclusivity is assured.
Get the best car your wallet can stand and have it carefully inspected by someone knowledgable before you buy it. (Ask the folk on this forum for the name of a local expert.)

I can do number of things on different cars, but i have never come across an rx-7. This one seems to be a really good deal, plus the guy is my friend, so I know most of the things about the car. But at the same time I kindof know the reputation of RX-7, he seemed to have fixed most of the items that might create problems in the future. My main concern is that the car is allready modified, it has more HP, etc. It does have Power FC, so the car gets enough fuel, and all of that stuff.
But i don't want to have a car sitting in a shop for 6 months out of the year.

I think you will be fine. It looks like he has modded it properly, along with the new motor, I think you will not have too many problems with it. Keep the boost low and watch the temps and I think you will be just fine. I say go for it.

Again, my advice is find a local specialty shop and have him go over the car and give you his opinion. It will cost you a few dollars but it gives you a clear picture and piece of mind before you purchase. He will know if the mods will hold up, or, what you should do (with prices) to ensure they hold up. He can also give you a sense of how the rest of the car looks. If you cannot afford that cost then you may not want to take the leap just yet. It looks as though you are in Washington (DC?). PFS Supercars is near by and could help. There are probably some other respectable shops nearby if you want someone else.
I have had an FD for 4 years as a daily driver. My car is basically stock but in that time the car has been very reliable with only two minor repairs.
RX7 turbos tend to last between 75K and 100K before requiring a rebuild. I assume you got rebuilt or replaced turbos when the motor was done??
