thinking about hockey pucking my broken engine mount

My driver's side engine mount is shot. I am afraid the rotorsports poly ones will be too stiff. I already have those unobo' diff bushings. anyway, looks like there is room for me to slip 2 hockey pucks instead. has anyoen done this before. I knwo some tuning shops that do this as perromance upgrades, etc. they are generally stiffer than OEM, but will they be softer than rotorsports?

is anyone using the rotorsports engine mounts? how are they?

Thanks

That's an interesting idea. I would also like to know any advantages/disadvantages to this.

Believe it or not I've done this before, lol. It works and you will get no engine flex at all, you do get more vibration in through the interior of course. The way I did mine was to take all of the rubber off of the original mount and put the puck(s) there instead(matching the height of the original rubber), and sliding a long bolt through it with washers on both ends of the bolt and the nut, worked great(as long as you don't mind more vibration).

This is common in the VW world. There shouldn't be any issues with durability and will be stiffer. In my case, there was hardly any noticable interior vibration.

Putting in a poly mount would relieve some of the stress being put on your torque brace I would think. IMO you should get the poly mounts unless this hockey puck thing really works well. Certainly would be cheaper!

acutally the great thing about the brace is that most of the vibrations are still in the softter mounts. I like to combination of troqrue brace and stock mounts, no vibraton adn same affect of solid mounts.

maybe I will try hockey pucks, I figure if I do one I should do the other, but that woudl be destroying a perfectly good mount.

ciao

well, at one time my brother bought a performance engine mount from some tuning shop, when we took his engine mounts down he saw that it had 2 made in czechoslovakia hockey pucks inside. That was the first time I had ever heard of it. We ripped them out thinking, "what kind of bullshit is this". after driving just a little while in his corrado with 17psi, he decided to put them back in because the car felt so much better.

kind of like to advantage you get with my torque brace

I am going to use 2 hockey pucks and in between some softer rubber to absorb the vibrations. I may just leave the other mount alone, altough I am sure that woudl accelerate the wear of the hockey puck one.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out, and if anyone has any experience with hockey pucks and FDs please chime in.

Go Habs Go,
Philip

Hockey pucks are made of vulcanized rubber, but usually designed for cold surfaces.

I'm not sure if they would work well or not.

it is for front wheel drive and not much power, but talk a bit about it.

I'll agree that IN THEORY this sounds like a good idea. Can someone post pics of what some stock and aftermarket mounts? It would help even to see pics.

Oh no! Not another ghetto mod! Next thing you know someone will start cutting holes in the frame and use dryer hose to vent the engine compartment! Yikes!
How about an intake make out of Molson beer cans -
well hosers, how about it, EH? Really guys, I love Canadians! LOL! (Maybe a torque brace made out of a hockey stick, or how about a cargo net for the rear made from a goal net?)
