Are they nuts? $20,000 for a 85K '93 FD

A local car lot has a Montego Blue 93 Touring - clean looking - with 85k miles on it, no modifications I can see, and they want $19,950 for it, marked down from $22,500. What have they been smokin'?

pot your fd for at least 2 thousand more than you think it is worth, gives you haggling power, raises the value of my car.

Raising the price, doesn't increase the value. I think FD are way overpriced, typically. For a 10+ year old car, whos reliability is questionable at best, and you know it was probably driven hard. As you start approaching 100K miles with a stock FD you might as well give the thing away. The 10-15K range is about right for a nice FD.

Its at a car dealership. You are not likely to find a bargain there. It shouldn't surprise anyone that they have a high price on it. If they don't sell it, the price will drop. Most likely, some impulsive kid will make his parents buy it for him, at too high of a price.

Exactly. You can't blame them for trying to sell to a sucker. I'll bet if a knowledgeable person went in and picked it apart, you could haggle them down to a reasonable price.

The problem I see is not normal FD's being overpriced it's the very nice and well maintained cars with 45-60K invested in them and guys on here saying it should only go for 19K, I think a excpetionally well maintianed stock FD should be in the 15-18 range depending on where you live. Highly modded show quality cars should get at least half their investment back. Yet most people cry about 30K for the car yet it can take hundreds of hrs and tons of money to reproduce the same thing. It is no longer just a FD at that point. Keep in mind few are at this level though. Just because it has a single and a paint job doesn't make it so.

Yeahh, ? Go and try to buy a NSX with 70-80k miles on, and you'll se how overpriced FD's are.
We definitely need to rise the prices, for sure.

Indeed. Try and find a '93 Ferrari, even if it had 100K on it, that anyone would be willing to just give away. It's a sports car for heaven's sake...

Yeah raise the prices damn it! Seriously how many do you think are left? I've seen more lamborghini's, vipers, and ferrari's on the road in my lifetime, than I have ever seen an FD. They may be down because of maintenance, not many people drive them, or what have you but that's what makes them awesome. 20,000 may be a little high in comparison to what they are selling for, but I personally believe it's worth it. What other car can you get for 20,000 that's even comparable, still a good bargain if you ask me. 75% of the people don't even know what they are, and freak out when they see one.

All I know is that I paid $17,500 for my 41K CYM R1 in 1998 and it was - and is - straight stock under the hood. I figure with depreciation, inflation, and such it should only be worth about $12,000 now. But, as the man said, there's a sucker born every minute.

The main reason FD's are overpriced is because they are not a car that most people would even want to buy. Everyone here loves them (obviously, this is rx7club.com). But for most people an older car that requires an inordinate amount of maintance (if you can find someone who knows how to work on one) is just not worth paying 20grand for. Personally, I love the rotary engine, so I was willing (although not happily) to pay 12.5. And modifying a car does not increase it's value, unless you have reciepts from a reputable shop for every little thing that was done. If someone doesn't have any reciepts you don't know what quality of work was done, or if the modifications are even any good.

Seriously people, think about it, you can buy a used C5 for less than 25 grand and all you have to worry about is changing the oil and driving the **** out of it. Why would you buy an rx7 for the same price?

Sounds familar......I paid $18k for my bone stock 28k mile VR R1 back at the end of 1998.

RAISE THE PRICE, hey if a brand new civic costs the same price to buy as an FD then what makes our cars more valuable? maybe thats why more cars get trashed cause people dont know what they are getting themselves into when they buy the car...and they end up treating it the wrong way.

Ive also seen like 99 civic SIs go for 10,000k, FD prices should at least be around the 14-18k range
