There is really nothing else dollor for dollor than FD
As I try to pay off debt and learn about the FD, I can not find another car that is as pretty or has the weight vs. HP when going against any other car.
Even if you take the high price for the old FD and add that with upgrade mods to keep it running nothing comes close. That and it is rear wheel drive. Go get a STI for 30k 10K more than a good FD and it only has a warranty and 300HP. Give it the AWD and great running, but for a sports car there is nothing....right?
What else is out there to place up against this car?
Porches, maybe an older Ferrari, something not American. Would love to hear if you can put anything pound for pound with HP being a factor that is as pretty as the FD.

1967-1969 Camaro
1998 + Corvette C5
1986 Corolla w/ 20B swap (ugly, but pound for pound....it's worth the ugliness)
Any of those 3 can be had for around the FD pricetag....unless you buy a ******* mint Camaro...then you could be paying more....oh...and the C5 may be a bit more too.....and the 86 could end up costing a grip...ok, well nevermind, nothing compares.

the c5 might have about the same performance and better reliability, but it would also cost more. camaro would be slower unless you put a lot of work into it, and it will never handle close to an fd. corolla with 20b...wouldnt a 20b fc be easier? and both would cost more if you had to pay for labor and neither would handle near an fd with out major $$ invested.
i think the evo and sti are the only close competitors (or will be in 10 years)

If your goal is a high 12 or low 13 second car that handles and brakes well than I would say your correct.
The minute you start saying you want something more the FD may not be such a sure bet.
By the way a EVO just placed 5th overall in One Lap of America race. Pretty good.. the highest overall placement of a 4 cylinder.

My vote...The Nobel M12 GTO -3R
powered by a ford twin turbo Mondeo 3.0L.Around360RWHP and 370 ft lbs.@3500 rpm's. Weight: 2169 pounds curb weight. 96 inch wheelbase, overall length of 161 inches. 72 inches wide, 45 inches high.
And it is drop dead pretty to me!!
The down side that mightmake it uncompetitive: $56,700 imported to the USA thru 1G Racing. Oh yeah, That price is MINUS engine and Drivetrain!! D'OH!!!!!
But it is still an awsome car and I will have one eventually.( 5 years is my goal, If business is good )
0-60 in 4.5 seconds, 1/4 mile 11.9 seconds
And top speed of 175 MPH ahhh fun!!

Naturally aspirated supras are as much as FDs, if you want a same condition supra twin turbo expect to pay $10,000 more than a similar FD. Supras will performa about the same in the 1/4 mile mod for mod, but there seem to be hardly any even making high 11's on the stock twins. The handling isn't quite as good as the FD but it is very capable. The older 300ZX twin turbos can be found cheaper but they also have a power to weight ratio of 11:6:1 stock compared to the FD at 10:9:1 and is quite a ways off in handling tests. Plus you have to buy two of everything so its essentialy double the costs, dual exhaust, dual turbos, dual air intakes. I don't think it makes power nearly as easily on the stock turbos either.

i love the way supras look
i don't like the 300zx
i wouldn't put the STi or the EVO in the same genre as the FD. totally seperate idea, HOWEVER, i think they are excellent cars and would love to have an EVO for my every-day beater.

Hmm...hard to say something compariable since the FD is close to being in a category in itself. Owning supras in the past i don't know of any other car i'd buy other then an FD, Supra, or vette..

Supra? = I doubt would ever handle like an FD without extensive Mods
300zx = same thing its a fat cow
rx-8 = Maybe light and stiffer chassis but not lighter than us
miata= maybe if you get the mazda speed but its still not the same in speed
350z= another fat cow, handles good and quick but still fat
c5= would probably be the closest thing possible and its still on the hefty side, you just dont feel it thanks to v-8 torque . This would probably be the only do-able thing except cash wise its more expensive than a modified FD, so I dont see the point.
mr2 Turbo= maybe but would still need some handleing mods
bmwM5= This is a joke right?
Evo/STI= I dont consider them in the same catagory but if you want to consider them, then yes this would probably be the ONLY other choice and honestly by experience Subura warranty's are not highly backed and from rumor nor is Mitsubishi
69 Camaro= Dude I got one, its a cow and even with a C5 chassis ive seen these things do GOOD on the track but no where near on the level of the FD
Now if your goal is 1/4 mile then honestly get a chevelle (3100lbs I beleive?) or a Nova (3000lbs) or if you can afford it 67 or 68 Mustang ( I prefer the fastback) it weighs in around 2900 with an inline 6 in it. The car has practically no chassis.
