Terrible Idle...

At the beginning of this week I cleaned out my airfilters and saw the oil was low so I put a little more in. I was driving down the road, i had just touched the E on the gas meter, and all of the sudden my idle when in neutral went wild. It reved up to about 2100rpm and when I turned off the lights or other electronics it would drop to 1500rpm and then jump to 2100 and back about every 2 sec. WHAT THE HELL IS GOIN' ON?! I dont know if any of this has to do with the problem but just telling you what i did before the idle went weird. Thanks. Id appreciate your opinions or suggestions.

Search the forum for "map sensor" as that might be your problem.

Andrew,

You have a vaccuum leak. You are non-sequential. Make sure you plugged everything you should have. I believe there is 20 plugs in all. And make sure your oil return line is connected.

Look at this thread.

yep, could very well be a vac leak, sounds like it

buy some starter fluid and have a trusty fire extinguisher ready and start spraying the joints and different areas. if idle changes, you found your leak

dude for the love of god use some ******* carb cleaner. skunks didn't you start a fire with starter fluid? why the hell would you suggest it to someone. vac leaks tend to be a stable high idle. but spray some CARB cleaner around all the vac/gasket points and see if it changes any

Thanks for the advice but i dont believe you have the right idea. It's not just a steady high idle then drops down after a while. It is a constant choppy up and down, up and down, up and down of the rpms. If you did get the idea then im sorry to try and correct you. It just sounds from the thread that you think its a constant high and then after a while goes back down to lower rpms.
